Taxation informants criticized as modern Gestapo parallels
A published critique denounces anonymous tips to the Taxation Department as a dangerous invasion of privacy. It condemns snooping and mail tampering, likening informant culture to Gestapo methods and urging withdrawal of calls for citizen informing of tax evaders.

New England potato contracts to be issued and quotas set
Interviewed early in the week Mr. T. L. Cuddy said contract forms for New England potato growers had just gone into print and would be available soon. He noted no reductions in contracts were planned, with 12 000 acres still to be contracted. Seed potatoes remain in short supply and farmers were urged to order early. Potatoes produced in the New England district rose sharply since 1930 with deliveries totaling around 179,810 tons to date this season, including substantial seed and table potato movements to Queensland and NSW centers.

Potato Digging Rate Proposed by Western Australia
The Commonwealth Potato Controller Mr A C Foster explains a yield based digging rate for potatoes. With six tons per acre as base, 2d per bag. for each ton above or below six, the rate per bag shifts by 3d, making seven tons equal to 1s 9d and five tons equal to 2s 4d. The method is suggested for discussion by potato grower groups elsewhere.

Resident protests claim of no land for closer settlement in Guyra
Mr H H Nielsen writes to the Editor from Guyra district disputing a previous Argus reply that no land in the Guyra Shire is suitable for closer settlement. He argues that if land existed nearby it would enable private enterprise, lighting, water services, a tannery and freezing works, a railroad, schooling, a hospital, and land for families. He questions the fairness of Mr Hayden's nomination forms and insists thousands of acres would aid development if land were truly available.
