Quiet Lake Panorama meeting names two new directors

Lake Panorama Property Owners Association elected Wilbur Bump and Bernard O’Malley to the board at a Saturday meeting in Panora attended by 147 members. Bump, a former Mid Iowa Lakes officer, won 94 votes. O’Malley led with 95. Robert Baehler and Clarence Copple split votes for a Mid Iowa nominated seat.

Becker Escapes Injury as Truck Flips Saturday

George M Becker of Parera was driving south on County Road N 70 toward Brushy Bridge when a rough section on the north side caused a loss of steering. The gravel-loaded truck veered into the east ditch and overturned on its top, but Becker escaped injury.

Fair Officers Elected Richter New Director

Guthrie county fair association officers were reelected Friday night at a director meeting. Wayne Laughery will be president Cecil Ruilsback vice president Rex Hayes treasurer GW Prince secretary Bert Hick continues as police chief and executive board member Dene Richter Adair named director from Grundy township to fill the vacancy caused by Don Cart rides death The 1972 fair dates remain the same as before, the weekend before Labor Day.

Guthrie shoppers resume the Win A Bundle promotion after a summer pause with 43 sponsoring businesses. A weekly minimum of 100 dollars is offered, with 50 dollars paid as 25, 2x10, and a 5 certificate. If the first 50 dollars is unclaimed, it rolls into the next weekly prize. Menlo Youth Dies In Crash At Stuart

Dennis Ray Moore a 17 year old senior at Stuart Menlo High School was killed in a head on collision on Highway 6 one quarter mile west of Stuart when Joyce Miller 19 of Casey passed in the left lane. Miller faced charges for driving left of center. Moore survived by parents Ronald and Venetta and four brothers. The year has seen several other fatalities including two tractor mishaps, a Yale biking death, Linden mayor Joseph Boots bus collision, and an early February highway crash.

Farley Charged With Larceny After Weekend Incident

Roger Farley Casey faced larceny charges after a Saturday incident. An arraignment was held on Monday.

Casey Man Is Charged After Stuart Mishap

Harry S. Clark of Casey was charged with failure to yield after a Tuesday accident near Stuart involving his tractor and wagon and a car driven by Earl Gene Miller of Menlo. Miller rear-ended Clark's wagon on Shedway 6. Miller's car sustained $250 in damage to the right front fender, while Clark's wagon end gate suffered about $25 damage.

Benton Named Iowa State Superintendent of Schools

Robert Benton, former Council Bluffs district leader, is appointed Iowa state superintendent of schools. He will take a pay cut and begin July 1 pending Senate confirmation, guiding 452 public school systems and 15 area vocational schools with a policy focus on equal opportunities. Governor supported the choice as one of nine candidates.

Sentencing of James Culbertson in Distrit Court

James Edward Culbertson of Bagley received a six month suspended sentence and probation under County Sheriff Lester Petersen after a conviction for failure to stop at the scene of a fatal accident. The crash killed Mark Winters, eight, son of Ardean and Mrs Winters of Yale. Sentencing was delayed a week for a pre sentencing investigation.
