Community Groups Fund Bagley Fire Hall Plan

Community groups donate 3000 toward a new Bagley fire hall and community center at Fitz Cafe site. The 30 by 80 foot building includes 48 by 30 bay for equipment and a 40 by 30 area with restrooms, meeting room, and recreation spaces for volunteers and local groups. Early spring occupancy will show community effort paying off.

County Buys Patrol Car For Sheriff's Office

The county purchased a new patrol car with radio and lights installed and placed in service December 1. The Board of Supervisors received three bids from Lewis Ford the low bid at 2850 dollars. This is the county's only patrol car, according to Deputy Bob Schafer.

Cottington Named CIA Candidate for Assessor Designation

Garth Cottington, county assessor, has been accepted as a candidate for the Certified Iowa Assessor designation. The mark is awarded by the Iowa Institute of Certified Iowa Assessors after passing a comprehensive exam, accumulating credit hours, and submitting narrative appraisals. Forty CIA professionals currently serve as assessors and appraisers.

Guthrie County Beef Cow-Management Day at ISU

Guthrie County beef cow-calf men are urged to attend the Beef Cow Management Day at Iowa State University on December 10. County Extension Director Dave May says the program addresses economically important cow-calf issues and could benefit Guthrie County cattle producers.

Seven Guthrie County 4H Youth Council officers joined peers from nine central Iowa counties at a leadership camp held November 13 and 14 at the State 4H camp near Madrid. Owen Rites Tuesday at Guthne Center Methodist Church

Services for 6% year old Fred Owen Jr will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Guthne Center with Key Milton Kinney officiating. Interment at Union Cemetery in Guthne Center. Survived by wife Lena, son Charles, father Fred B Owen Sr, brother Shubel of Fargo ND, and three grandchildren.

Dr Donald R Mallett a Guthrie Center resident and Purdue University vice president for student services died last week after illness. He joined Purdue in 1945 as assistant to the editor of student affairs and rose to executive dean. Born in Guthrie Center he held degrees from Drake and Iowa. Survived by wife Catherine and two sons Craig and Donald A.

County Lags In Bond Sales Quota at 67 Percent

October savings bond sales in Guthrie county totaled $14,116 under Series E and H, reported by M. R. Calley of Guthrie Center. The ten month figure reached $187,954, achieving 67 percent of the 1971 quota. Greene, Dar, and Macisor in the Guthrie area exceeded their quotas. Calley urged purchasing Savings Bonds for Christmas.

November Call For Draft Has Two In Area

The November draft in Guthrie County took 1.5 men Richard Tallman and Paul Tvers, sons of local residents. In Fair Rapids another man departed for the senor draft. The county expects no more than 125 calls this year and notes changes in December procedure. a release will follow later in month.

Gilson Construction of Guthne Center secured the contract for a 32 by 60 foot structure at the Panora historical museum site. The Conservation Board will oversee completion and turnover, with a depot replica and railroad era exhibits planned across three buildings.

License Plate Sales Draw Crowds in County

December 1 1972 saw heavy crowds as license plates went on sale at a popular county location with long lines and strong turnout.

Courthouse opens at 8 30 amid license plate shuffle

The opening of the Courthouse at 8 30 sparked a shuffle in the first 50 auto license plates. Darrell Hammond failed to receive the number one plates despite being first in line. He bought the number one truck plate and the number 39 car plate for himself and acquired plates for others, including the coveted number one plate for Sam Sloss. By day three, total sales outpaced last year with 763 auto licenses and 202 truck licenses sold, compared with 638 auto licenses and 175 truck licenses at the same point last year.

George Howey Dies Services Set Tuesday

Obituary for George W Howey age 66 of a rural area. Services scheduled Tuesday at 2 pm at United Methodist Church on Guthne Canter with Rev Wayne Hoe hns of Adair officiating assisted by Rev Milton Kinney. Interment in Uneon township cemetery near Wichita. Survivors include wife Enid two sons Frank and Gary and three daughters Betty Doris and Charlene. He died Saturday night at the Greene County hospital in Jefferson.
