Gunnison Sugar Kings Win Southern Utah Baseball Title

The Gunnison Sugar Kings defeated Salina four to one to clinch the Southern Utah Baseball league pennant on the Gunnison diamond last Sunday. With 600 to 700 fans present, Gunnison’s true resident team dominated from the fourth inning, led by pitcher Lester Fredrickson who allowed only one hit. The Kings’ lineup featured notable plays including Sorenson’s squeeze and Pace’s three-base hit, while Sevier County’s Swain yielded four hits in relief for Salina. The victory caps a strong season: 21 wins, 7 losses in 28 games, as Gunnison residents celebrate a landmark achievement.

Beet Growers Ready for Busy Valley Harvest

The beet growers of the valley and Sevier valley are harvesting beets with factory deliveries starting this month. Sevier valley carloads reached the factory Tuesday and beet silting began Wednesday. The organizing of the workers is complete for a busy season. Prime children enjoyed dancing and games at the meeting house on Wednesday evenings. Mutual work groups and council leaders named, with Mrs. Oswald Back as Y M I A president and Marva Jensen as secretary. F W McMillen is a proud new father after a baby girl, born last Saturday. mother and baby are doing well.

Social Circle club elects officers for ensuing year

At a recent meeting Mrs George Halverson was chosen president Mrs J M Knighton secretary and Mrs C N Jensen reporter New members enrolled are Mrs Clyde Edmonds and Mrs Belle Erickson The club will meet at Mrs Lloyd Andersons home next Wednesday afternoon.

Gunnison Adopts New Traffic Ordinance Friday

Starting on the fifteenth this month Gunnison enacts a strict traffic ordinance aimed at safety. Cars must park at specific distances and 45 degree angles with northbound on east side and southbound on west. Drivers must make square turns at intersections and observe proper street sides to avoid judge action.

Checks Without Funds Stir Valley Alarm

A Well known valley resident warns that men and boys increasingly pass worthless checks. Reports describe numerous bad checks and accounts with insufficient funds, with banks returning no account notices. Some youths allegedly obtain checkbooks to pass bad paper, and drastic action may follow to curb the practice.

An audience packed the Relief Society hall last Tuesday night for Gunnison Dramatic Club's three act comedy Pacing the Music. Cast members Elrey Christiansen Clyde Edmonds Lloyd Beck Grant Nielsen Nelson Beal Erma Lundeberg Mary Jensen Ruth Perkine Leona Edwards delivered polished performances though stage facilities limited. The troupe, already touring Wayette Mayfield Ephraim Salina Centerfield Nephi Manti Fayette with a benefit show for South Sanpete Stake Sunday Schools, plans further engagements in Nephi and Manti next week and a return to Fayette.

Presbyterian society sets new meeting days for two groups

The Ladies Missionary society and the Light Bearers Band of the Presbyterian society announce a shift to hold their semi monthly meetings on the first and third Saturdays each month instead of Tuesdays. The change aids Light Bearers Band members who are public school students.

Dr Nelson Beal relocates his dental practice from the Coop building to the Gunnison Valley bank building on the second floor. The dental parlors now occupy rooms two and three, with improvements to the suite making it adequate for his clientele.

Rocky Point Road To Be Widened And Improved

The Gunnison county board of commissioners agreed to repair and widen Rocky Point Road west of the city toward West View and Clarion. A delegation led by O B Berglund J A Taft and W E L Gribble urged action noting heavy traffic and danger. The plan calls for boulevard-like reconstruction to reduce danger and aid farmers transporting crops to market.

Services Held For Luella Percival

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Luella Percival wife of Roscoe Percival in Gunnison last Sunday. She died September 10 at Dee hospital after childbirth related operation. Born February 19 1902 in Gunnison she spent most of her life there. Survived by husband five children Marcella Morgan Lestie and two infants at hospital plus brothers Leo Alvin and sister Mrs Elvend Pjeldsted. Interment followed at Gunnison cemetery with local church members and a special quartet providing music.

Nephi Anderson Family Returns from Utah Mission

Mrs. Nephi Anderson and her son Leo returned last Saturday from Ogden where they were called by the death of Mrs. Luella Percival. Anderson accompanied her daughter's remains to Gunnison for interment with due honors.
