Maple Canyon in Sanpete County aims to attract broader attention through a joint excursion by service clubs from Sanpete and Juab counties. On Monday June 17, leaders including Ernest B R Anderson invite Gov Dern and state and federal officials to join a two to five pm canyon tour with guides from the Moroni Lions club followed by a luncheon and program.

Madsen Narrowly Escapes After Car Goes Into Barrow Pit
BERT A. Madsen, book keeper for Consolidated Wagon & Machine, escaped with a scratch after his car toppled into a barrow pit following a hurricane rain and a near collision with a boy in Payson. Rescuers pried open the door to free him as twenty cars gathered at the crash site. He was en route to reunite with his wife and children.

Gunnison Baseball Loses Big in Blizzard Hit Nephi Series
Nephi routed Gunnison 32 to 9 in a Sunday game played in blizzard conditions. Gunnison pitchers Larson and Thompson were unavailable, Fredrickson struggled after an early burst of form, and Stubbs Modeen Tollestrup and Hansen filled pitching roles as Nephi’s bats exploded. Bank Looters Receive Long Indeterminate Prison Terms
Fred H. Bayer and John Ryan were found guilty of the Gunnison Valley bank robbery last January in Manti. Judge Dibworth Woolley sentenced them to indeterminate terms between 25 and 40 years in the state penitentiary. John Andersen alias Dwyer escaped from Manti jail and is still sought.
