The Sanpete County fair, scheduled for September, will offer enhanced prize lists across all departments. Highlights include a $75 cash total for the best sugar beet dozen, with $50 for first and $25 for second, as exhibitors prepare superior farm product entries, all raised and owned by the exhibitor.
Mrs L P Frandsen and son visited relatives in Mt Pleasant last week. Thelma Lund hosted a birthday party for her young friends. The South Clarion school students held a social with games and music. Phebe Pace of Bountiful visited her parents Mr and Mrs Edwin Pace. Burg Frandsen went to Manti on business. Julius Christensen of Manti, visiting his son Earl, has returned home. Ethel Hales of Redmond visited her parents the Hales. Dewey Lund and Royal Lund hosted Cen terfield guests for a Sunday visit. Miriel Jennings spent a week as a Layan visitor. Letha Buchanon of Manti visited her sister Vina Buchanon.
Exsoldier boys and Gunnison Guard Mount post 104 are urged to appear in uniform at Legion headquarters next Monday May 31 at 9 o'clock to participate in honoring three Gunnison boys who died in the recent world war.
The Gunnison ball team lost 10 to 6 at Monroe’s field on a Wednesday afternoon. Despite strong play, Gunnison’s lack of practice gave the Sevier county club the edge. Gunnison lineup featured Fredrickson and Pace as pitchers, with Halversons, Tollestrup, Sorenson, Beal, Edwards, Sanders, and Willardson in the field and outfield.
Gutinison has been in darkness for most of the early week. Telluride Power Company officials say load washouts near Maryavale caused the outage. The Beaver Beaver Creek Deer Trail Fish Creek feed lines failed in succession from Sunday through Wednesday due to washed out poles.

The Southern Utah Baseball League opens next Sunday with Moroni vs Gunnison at the Gunnison diamond and Ephraim vs Salina at Salina field. The Gunnison game starts at 4 30 and Gunnison’s lineup includes Lee Pace Lester Fredrickson L Sorenson as pitchers and Dick Pace Nelson Beal Niel Sorenson Albert Newman Harold Halverson R Edwards Daunt Sanders Tony Willardson Ross Tollestrup in the outfield and infield.
Approximately fourteen carloads of wool have been shipped from Gunnison station in ten days or two weeks, mostly from Gunnison citizens. Major consignors include Megsie Claud Michelson and Metcalf & Sons with 90,000 pounds, and Beauregard and H. P. Jensen each at about 8,000 pounds. The wool, sent to National Wool & Warehouse Storage in Boston, sold on contract at 72 cents per pound, with buyers for Eastern concerns temporarily halted but prices for fancy wool remaining firm and expectations of higher returns.
Prices for ice cream and summer drinks increased in Gunnison. Ice cream per dish up to 15 cents, cones to 10 cents, sundae up to 20 cents, and drinks to 5 or 10 cents. Bread price to rise June 1 to 10 cents per loaf, replacing three for a quarter.
Decoration day in Gunnison will be observed Monday May 21 as a volunteer holiday. Citizens, Boy Scouts of Gunnison, Gunnison Guard post, and Gunnison American Legion will assist in cleaning and beautifying the city cemetery starting at 9 o clock. Bring a shovel or rake. Supervisors will direct the work and debris will be hauled away. Men women and children are urged to help.
High water from Twelve Mile Creek caused nearly $2000 in damage last weekend. The Nine Mile flume crossing Twelve Mile washed away concrete supports, causing the flume to give way. Repairs are planned to restore the damaged structure promptly.
Mrs Ida Lee Bush representing the Radcliffe Chautauqua System based in Washington DC visited last Wednesday and sparked local interest. It is likely Gunnison will host a three day chautauqua in July featuring six lectures six musical concerts and two children oriented numbers.
Gunnison's assessed valuation rises to about 492 thousand dollars for 1920, up from 493,505 in 1910 with substantial gains over five years. County totals jump from 11.88 million in 1919 to roughly 17.85 million in 1920, with railroads and state assessments not included.
Albert Newman a well known Gunnison baseball fan and teacher from Driggs Idaho arrived last Wednesday evening. He taught in Driggs last winter and plans a summer visit with his mother Mrs S. Newman. He remains a fan and expects to wear a Gunnison suit for the local hall team.
