Mrs. Elvena Jensen, 70, native of Denmark, died at her Centerfield home after illness that began in December. Survived by daughters Miss Ruby Jensen and Mrs. Edna Jensen and two grandchildren, funeral services set for Friday at 2 PM at Centerfield Cemetery.

Fire Roars Through Barn After Boys Ignite Hay
Wayne and Junior Peterson and Matthew Mansfield, ages 5 to 8, built a small fire in Moroni Jensen’s barn Sunday afternoon. A strong gale spread flames to a chicken coop and granary, destroying the barn and causing about 700 in losses. Neighbors aided in salvage, but heat was intense. Winds from the south prevented broader damage to nearby homes and fire facilities. In Gunnison, Martin Willardson welcomed a baby boy weighing 12 pounds born Thursday night last week, with both mother and child reported well.

Mrs Helena Fjeldsted wife of Sidney Fjeldsted died after two weeks of illness at Salina hospital following an emergency operation. Born July 4 1889 at Ephraim she married Sidney Fjeldsted fifteen years ago and leaves five children Roberta Montez DeLoy Marvin and Vernile. Elisnore Pirates Battle Gunnison Cubs In Rain Soaked Loss
Nine local Pirates visited Gunnison and suffered a 9 to 3 defeat as a strong Gunnison team outplayed Elisnore despite a rain storm. Villard pitched four innings with three hits allowed and led the Pirates at the plate with three two base hits. Newell Childs, Stubbs and young players showcased promising talent while veteran names struggled from lack of recent action. Manager Horace Peterson praised the squad and anticipation grows for next Sunday's rematch in Elisnore.

Eleven Centerfield girls aged 13 to 15 organize a sewing club with Miss Naomi Christensen as leader. Officers include Ila Hansen president Viola Christensen vice president Hazel Fjeldsted secretary treasurer and Miss Christensen again as leader. The founder is a local high school graduate who attended a spring training school at the Agricultural College in Loan. Members plan to work earnestly through the summer.

Prominent Centerfield Man Dies In Train Car Collision
James Tassie a Centerfield merchant and former justice of the peace died after his car collided with Denver Rio Grande passenger train No 611 north of Salina. Tassie was born December 5 1855 and left a large family including children in Salt Lake City Gunnison Centerfield and Aberdeen. Funeral services were held at Gunnison Valley High School before the body was shipped to North Hero Vermont to rest beside his wife.

Local Talent Wins Speaking Contest
Belva Sorenson will represent the 11th district in the girls public speaking contest and Jack Spencer of Centerfield will represent the same district in the Mutual public speaking contest at the June conference of the MIA in Salt Lake City. They won at Richfield last Saturday against six other stakes from Sanpete Sevier and Wayne counties, after qualifying at the MIA day at Gunnison May 14. The Gunnison ward stakes produced the victors, with Sorenson and Spencer earning easy wins though facing sophomores from BYU and other skilled speakers from many 11th district stakes.

Evergreen trees to beautify Gunnison cemetery work
Twenty four evergreen trees four to five feet tall will be planted at Gunnison City cemetery tomorrow under city council order. May or Christansen supervises tree procurement from Forest officials and Twelve Mile canyon, with a twenty cent government charge per tree. Plans include one tree near each hydrant and others at convenient irrigation points, plus a dozen trees for Gunnison City park arranged for visual appeal. Memorial Day prep urged for property owners to clean and ready burial grounds.

Missionary Honored At Manti Luncheon
Miss Bessie Tooth of Manti and Gunnison was the honored guest at a luncheon hosted by Miss Erma Sunderberg. Outside guests included Miss Tooth Mr and Mrs John Clift and Miss Ada McArthur of Mt Pleasant.
