May 25th has been set aside as Poppy Day in Gan Mann Valley with a simple tribute to those who sacrificed. Poppy chairmen Donald Hammood and Mrs. Lawrence Werly note contributions go to rehabilitation and child welfare work for disabled veterans via the American Legion auxiliaries.
Ronald D. James 4 of Fayette dies after vehicle collision with a cow on Highway 44 ten miles west of Corkum, returning from a Thiokol Chemical Corp trip. Survived by widow Norma and two children, service held May 18 at Fayette Ward LDS Chapel. burial at Fayette Cemetery. Gerald James, Jay James among listed relatives. military honors by the American Legion.
The Hospital Board met with architect Maraloire of the Gennison Valley Hospital on May 20 in Provo. They discussed materials for the new facility and reviewed the final plan aimed for approval by state and federal agencies.
Democrats call mass meeting at 030 pm to elect delegates to the county convention. The joint meeting of district committees will be chaired to organize representation for districts one and two.
Valley residents mourn Frances Ford Hees 55 wife of Stille Sumter Jr. G. Stanford Feen of Gunnison died May 16 at Gunnison Valley Hospital from carbon monoxide poisoning. Born July 1 188? in Philadelphia she married Dr G Sanford Rees June 24 1900 in Salt Lake City. The couple founded Gunnison Valley Hospital in 1340 and she was active in civic affairs including charity drives school uniforms and local TOPS club. Survived by husband three daughters nine sons and other relatives. Funeral services were held May 10 at Gurdint Chapel with ministers in charge. Burial in Gunnison City Cemetery.
Seminary announces graduation exercises to be mid May at Centerfield Ward Chapel with J Wesley Christensen as guest speaker. Potential graduates listed include Bonnie Gaye Alm Comte Faye Amtott and many others. reception follows at Cedar City campus.
Mrs Karls Hansen received an American flag in Salt Lake City honoring her husband Brent Hansen, who died from an accidental gunshot wound while served in the military. The flag was presented by the Veterans Administration as part of a veterans program.
Lions President Royal Whitlock named to lead the club with Gunmigan tus bineman as successor. Paul Kyrea becomes one year director while Bill May and Leon Bintley take secretary roles. Jay Jansen wins two year director post with Maynard Sorenson continuing. Milton Christiansen will serve as tall twister with Merrit Howe as frontman.
The GVHS graduation program and related events are announced by Principal Dallan A. Greener. Evening performances during Education Week at HFAC and Pardee venues feature BYU dancers, Bye Birdie plays, and a concert. Graduates Emma Peterson and Carl Whittock are noted among the class initiators.
Mant Elementary School pays tribute to Mrs Adra Vout with a farewell party May 17 in the Mant North Ward Chapel. After 20 years in teaching, she began as a teacher in Burrviny, then Surting, married West, and raised three children before returning to Mant Elementary as a second grade teacher for 12 years. Her three children pursue education careers, and she plans to devote more time to family while celebrating students and colleagues.
An English banker and a Fayette woman traced a genealogical push through a newspaper ad in England. Nigel A Bown, 20, answered the Fayette notice and traveled to the United States, arriving at Salt Lake City airport on May 8. The party, including Mrs. Bown and Payette ranch hosts, were greeted and hosted in the capital area.
The week brings several visitors and guests to Guanwee Valley Hospital. Mr and Mrs Lee Mabinjeren from Guanwee visit with a newborn daughter. Mr Bown, recently passing the England banker exam, tours American banking procedures and travels to Southern Utah parks and Las Vegas before returning to California. He remarks on American friendliness and differing bank requirements while planning continued genealogical research with his wife.
