Gunnison High School closes term with exercises and exhibit
This week marks the closing of Gunnison High School for the term with fitting exercises at the A.8. hall and a field day at the reservoir grove yesterday. Despite seven weeks lost to influenza last fall the term was successful with a correspondence course aiding makeup work. Attendance was below desired and may improve next fall and winter. Commencement festivities featured sport events and an exhibit of students work in Domestic Art Applied Art and Shop work. Tonight's program at the Relief Society hall includes the High School Chorus invocation school report readings piano solos and a guest address followed by benediction.

Double Wedding Announced for Madsen Sons
Mr and Mrs Anthony Madsen announce a double wedding at their home on June 4. Roy Madsen will marry Verona Conliffe of Manti and Bert A Madsen will wed Bertha Funk of Sterling. Gunnison High School entertained district eighth graders and about twenty five visitors last Friday. A noon lunch preceded a musical program, speeches by Superintendent Reid of Manti and principal C Wirschknecht, a matinee dance at Petersons hall, and a tennis contest between Sophomores and Freshmen to cap the day.

Recital Well Received by Gunnison Pupils
The pupil recital by the High and grade school classes of Gunnison last Sunday and Tuesday evenings at the Relief Society hall drew capacity crowds. Applause greeted every number as Albert N. Gunnison high school sent Mary Jensen and Frank Christensen to the Boys and Girls’ Club convention at the Agricultural college May 18. Post Road Is Now Assured In Utah State Road Plan
A Gunnison Richfield and La Haine business delegation urged the State Road commission to reroute the Arrowhead Trail from Wash Board Plats through the Sorenson ranch area to save 25000 to 30000 dollars. Louis Dorius badly injured in Fayette ranch accident
Louis O. Dorius a longtime Fayette resident now in Mephraim was seriously injured last Saturday when riding his horse at a Fayette area ranch. The horse fell on him, pinning him briefly, causing suspected internal injuries. Rescued, he was taken home to Ephraim for care. he is about 45 with a large family and remains semi conscious despite outside bruises.

Pioneer Woman Called Mrs Johanna Jobson Dies in Gunninda
Mrs Johanna Jobson aged mother of Arthur Johnson died at Briek Vangella home in Gunninda last Friday after four months illness. Born in Sweden she came to Utah in 1881 and lived in Guanleon thereafter. A member of the Latter Day Saints church she was beloved for her cheerful nurture. Survived by her only son Arthur Johnson of this city. Funeral held last Monday at 1 o'clock p m conducted by Counselor Adolph Peterson.

Decoration Day Proclamation for Gunnison Observance
The city of Gunnison proclaims Friday May 30 as Decoration Day with business closures from 9:30 a.m. to noon. A band will perform 9 to 10 a.m. on the streets, then a funeral procession to the cemetery for ceremonies. Participants are asked to bring rakes and shovels to rake and clean the cemetery. Mayor J. Conference Rates Granted for Mormon Church Meeting
A telegram from Senator Reed Smoot to President Heber J. Grant in Washington states special railroad rates will be granted for visitors to the Mormon church conference in Salt Lake City in June. Smoot has pressed for the rates while church officials had almost given up hope. Those who qualify may obtain a round trip ticket for fare and one third, enabling hundreds from other states to attend.
