Whitlock dies at 82 after long Mayfield life
Hyrum Whitlock of Mayfield died April 29 in Quandisee Valley Hospital at 82. Born December 1903, he was the son of George Q and Mary Jensen Whitlock, lived his entire life in Mayfield, worked as a farm laborer, and belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Gail Violet Jensen July 14, 1910. Survivors include three daughters, a son, two brothers, and many grandchildren. Funeral services were May 3 at the Mayfield Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Ronald Rafeman presiding. Burial followed at Mayfield Cemetery.

Literary Scholarship Award and Contest Details
The Historical Writing Committee announces a $25 scholarship for a reserved writing student at the college, chosen by English faculty. A Utah cancer clinic in Sanpete drew about 475 women from Sanpete Jaoh and Govier counties for free breast and Pap tests. The Wah Ban testing station reports 1970 72 bulls from 25 Utah breeders tested at Allen Fraxleen Ranch Gumlees for 140 days. Bulls averaged 398 pounds gain with 999 pounds daily gain noted for the top performer a Charolais owned by Perry Weekhauf. 125 ranchers saw bulls at Field Day. 28 bulls sold at Salina Auction.

Fish and Game Division Renamed to Wildlife Resources
The Fish and Game Division will officially become the Division of Wildlife Resources on May 10 1971. The change is in the Wildlife Resources Code passed by the Utah Legislature affecting the division's role in state wildlife resources. The Board of Fish and Game becomes the Wildlife Board while the Board of Fishing Game retains its existing title.
