Many Candidates Seeking Diplomas From Washington School
Twenty eight students from the Washington public school will seek freshie honors at the Abinitio class graduation at Gunnison Valley high school next Wednesday May 11. The program includes an invocation salutations address to graduates and diplomas presentation by Principal Metcalf. Prospective graduates listed include Ray Hermansen Evelyn Mortenson Ahlan Swalberg Gladys Green and others. Mr and Mrs Orville Hansen hosted a dinner at the Gunnison hotel in honor of Mr S M Duggins birthday.

Modeen Stars at School Track Meet in Richfield
Robert Modeen of Gunnison excelled at the Sevier county track meet in Richfield, scoring 17 of Gunnison’s 26 points. He won the discus at 108 feet 8 inches and the javelin at 147 feet, placed third in the high jump, while Gledhill took fourth in the mile.

Centerfield reports Mrs. Q Myrup recovering well after surgery in Salt Lake City where Soren Andersen visited his daughter. Miles Anderson, 3, son of Mr and Mrs Farrell Anderson, died following appendicitis surgery in Rexburg Idaho and was buried at the meeting house with Bishop C A Peterson officiating. The Andersen family will remain in the valley. A party for Miss Lavona Beck drew a large crowd with dancing games and refreshments. Centerfield trustees set an irrigation schedule starting May 10 allowing east side taps morning hours and west side noon to evening. Dr H Swalberg treated hog cholera outbreak affecting about 200 pigs in Circleville and remained to oversee containment.

Gunnison Valley Students Inspect Manti Hatcheries and Dairy Herds
About thirty members of the Gunnison Valley High School agricultural club returned from a trip to Manti with enhanced knowledge of hatchery operations chicken incubation and the breeding farm. They toured the Manti hatchery and dairy cattle facilities guided by an attendant, learning chick shipping culling and care of Holstein and Jersey cows. The visit, supervised by L. Henrie, was considered one of the most enjoyable and beneficial of the school year.

Entertains Lodge Members on Birthday Anniversary
Mrs. Leo N. Gledhill hosted Royal Neighbors members and guests at her home on Thursday night. A hot supper at 8 preceded a lively progressive 500 game, won by Mrs. L. G. Anderson and Mrs. J. S. Peterson with Alma Larson as consolation. Out of town guests included Mrs. C. A. Forster of Axtell and Mrs. Sadie Mackey of Idaho. Mrs. Gledhill received many presents.

Willardson Scores Big Wins In Boxings All Navy title
Grant Willardson, a former Gunnison lad now with the Pacific fleet, added the all navy welterweight crown to his Pacific fleet and ship titles. He defeated Fort Sumpter of the Atlantic fleet in a gruelling bout at Guantanamo Bay, with reports praising his pure southpaw power and strong rings performance. Willardson previously held Pacific fleet titles after winning the San Diego fleet crown.

Workman Injured Falling From Ladder at Whittenburg Home
Eldon Nielson of Telluride Power was injured Monday afternoon while on a ladder at the Whittenburg residence. He suffered a badly sprained back and multiple bruises and will be confined to his home for ten days to two weeks.

BYU Students Visit Gunnison Valley High for Music Program
Brigham Young University students from the music and public speaking groups visited Gunnison Valley High School Monday morning. The eighth grade from Washington School attended along with many prominent locals. Under Lowry Nelson, the group tours Southern Utah schools after serving as Sanpete County agent.

Locals Go Fishing on Utah Lake Sunday
Mr and Mrs C M Edwards Ira Overfelt Jean Overfelt George Francis F H Jones Julius Duggins and Grant Chidester formed a fishing party that drove to Lincoln Beach on Utah Lake last Sunday. Weather was disagreeable and fishing poor the sole feature being a fine camp lunch. The market was not flooded with fish caught by the anglers using angle worm bait.
Birth of a son at Manti to Mr. and Mrs George Mayhew
Relatives and friends in Gunnison were advised of the birth of a baby boy to Mr and Mrs George Mayhew at their Manti home on Monday morning. Mrs Mayhew is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Blix and both mother and son are reported doing splendidly.

Man Found Dead at Beauregard Offices After Illness Talks
Harry Wilson 63 of Manti collapsed at the Beauregard offices in Gunnison while chatting with friends after discussing his brother’s illness. Acute heart disease following influenza is blamed. Wilson, a Coke ranch worker near Axtell, died at once. body sent to Ephraim. He is survived by his widow and five children. Samuel Wilson, his brother in Price, had died recently. Local distress followed the sudden loss.
