Industrial and national conditions show ongoing improvement since Christmas. Manufacturing output and employment rise, farm cash income up 63 percent from a year ago, while retail prices edge higher and government spending remains a factor. Domestic trade improves as payrolls rise and mail order and department store profits rebound.
Goodrich announces a nationwide advertising push in over two thousand papers including The Gunnison Valley News. The campaign highlights Tire and battery products such as Safety Silvertown with Life Saver Golden Ply, Gold and Black tube, Seal-O-Matic puncture seal, and Hedro-Pak storage battery.
Sanpete division of Bryce Canyon council Troops from Gunnison Mt Pleasant Spring City Ephraim Manti Fayette and Axtell gathered in Gunnison for the annual spring jamboree. W G Barton scout executive assisted Roy West supervised. Thirteen contests on track with top honors going to Spring City troop 60 and Ephraim troop 26 with scores listed.
About 200 Four H club members across nine Utah counties will raise ring necked pheasants this year with help from the state fish and game department and the agricultural extension service at Logan. More than 4000 eggs will be provided after May 10 and hatched under domestic hens. The project aims to release birds at 14 to 16 weeks in their communities with county representatives supervising.
U A Kearns, missing from coastal points for months, returns to Gunnison to oversee business interests. He arrived by air from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City with son Ernest, viewing Boulder Canyon dam and Bingham copper properties en route. He recalls traveling by mule 65 years ago from San Bernardino to Salt Lake, noting the advent of airplanes.
Mr. and Mrs. George Bauer Jr of Salt Lake were guests of relatives and friends here during the week end.
Gunnison Axtell Centerfield Fayette and other valley grade schools won in reading spelling and arithmetic contests at Manti last Friday with district south San pete entries. Crystal Christensen placed third in reading class A while Teiko Miyatake and others earned medals in oral spelling. In arithmetic and written spelling the scores show Centerfield Manti Ephraim Gunnison and Fayette among top finishers across grades.

Bert Willardson of the Northwestern Turkey Growers association, returning from a western trip, stopped briefly in Gunnison to visit his parents Mr and Mrs Joseph Willardson. He continued to Salt Lake City for a convention of the association scheduled Friday and Saturday.
Governor Blood urged farmers and a committee including Elmo Irons and John Olsen to buy poisoned bran and start immediate action against millions of young grasshoppers spreading through North and South Sanpete. Federal relief funds are authorized but not yet received as hoppers threaten crops.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Lundeberg of Salt Lake returned Sunday after traveling here due to the illness of Mrs C Q Lundeberg, the mother of Wayne.
In a brief relay style summary Axtell placed second and fourth ling finished third. Several runners from Axtell and Sterling ranked with Axtell first and Sterling second while Payete earned third place in another race.
Gunnison Valley high school captured first place with 82 points at the Sanpete County track meet in Manti. Wasatch Academy finished second with 69 points and Ephraim third with 33, while North Sanpete totaled 2314 and Manti 15.
C E Andersen and family attended the Provo track invitational where Gunnison high school athletes posted strong showings. Gunnison took second in the mile relay and 80 yard dash, first in 220 yard dash heats, with Dean Andersen and Ival Despain excelling in nine events. PF H Jones visited brother Jack Jones in Salt Lake City over the weekend.
Relics stored in Gunnison homes are shown at the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers meeting in the new ward chapel. Residents are urged to bring items for display, with extra artifacts planned and a program featuring Wil l discuss state flag Salt Lake convention report and music by Mrs. F H Jones and Ralph Brit ach.
Governor Blood appeals for one million dollars for Utah to save crops as Sanpete county irrigators form a six person committee from Gunnison Mayfield Sterling North Six Mile Highlands Willow Creek to pursue federal aid. John M. Knighton prepares the plan and travels to Salt Lake to confer with S G Margetts on drouth relief efforts.
The Sanpete County Fish & Game club at the Fayette preserve outlined a busy season 1934 plan. Emphasis on wild duck propagation and protection, increased muskrat activities, and turkey experiments with 1500 poults to be released from Ephraim. Officers named at Manti election include President Stanley Jorgensen and VP H R Clark, with Ira Overfelt as secretary. Board members listed. next meeting set for May 5 at Manti.
