A survey of Roosevelt era measures shows a hopeful turn with bank gold returning to circulation and plans for a $500 million unemployment relief program. Foreseen revenue from beer and gasoline taxes, plus reduced veteran compensations and salaries, aim to balance the budget as industry signals recovery and prices rise.
The finance committee and workers plan another Friday eve dancing party at the Gunnison high school auditorium to speed funds for the new ward chapel. A country store will be set up with groceries and goods given away, and free transportation by bus or car will be provided from the Wistaria cafe.
The 1933 outlook for turkey raising looks favorable though prices are uncertain. Production may drop from last year’s record 19 million birds, while baby poult demand is down and credit limits purchases. Cold storage may deplete as the new crop approaches, imports slow, and costs fall with improved efficiency.

Max Daniels a long respected Utah businessman and mining figure died at his Salt Lake home after a prolonged illness. He helped survey and launch the Gunnison Sugar company project about 15 years ago and later connected with Wrigley interests who took over the plant. Daniels, born May 22 1875 in Poland, was a notable promoter of sugar and mining ventures across Utah Nevada and Idaho.
Bishop Leslie J. Kidman, retiring from Gunnison ward, will be guest of honor at a City Hall event next Monday evening. Sponsored by the new bishopric and ward church groups, the public is invited to enjoy a program, refreshments, and games.
Hamilton ward boy scouts hosted a Father’s Night at the new scout lodge with demonstrations, songs, a luncheon, and a dancing party that ran until midnight. Hyrum Fredrickson left for Murray to assist his son Alma on a chicken ranch. Irene Allmendinger of Gunnison and Maxine Sanders of Spearmint were named carnival queens at Wasatch Academy.
Red Cross teams in Long Beach coordinate relief after the quake shocking Southern California. A. L. Schafer directs feeding from 31 stations for thousands in parks and on premises with improvised kitchens while fuel and water remain scarce.
Following a depositor meeting, the Gunnison Valley bank will reopen by Friday or Saturday under a new setup approved by state and federal officers. Ira Overfelt will present the plan in Salt Lake, with about 100 percent of waivers signed and withdrawals limited by the holiday rules and prior accounts restrictions.
Sanpete county farmers have planted about 600 small trees over three years, with $80,000 expected in 1933 orders. Trees from the State Agricultural College nursery covered shelter belts and woodlots, mainly hardwoods such as ash and elm, with conifers like pines and spruce. Nursery prices run about $2 per hundred. orders accepted through April 1.
Mrs. As M. Peterson entertained the Wide Awake bridge club at the Wistaria cafe on Saturday afternoon. Progressing bridge honors went to Mrs. J. E. Metcalf and Mrs. June Metcalf. A luncheon for sixteen followed at four o'clock.
A new organization, the West Desert Grazing Association, formed at Richfield, aims to push a congressionally sought grant of about 6,000,000 acres for grazing in the west and southwest deserts. Officers include S. M. Jorgensen as president and Alex Barton as vice president with a seven‑member directorate. The group seeks to regulate grazing in Teaver, Millard and Uintah counties and has lobbied Utah representatives for immediate action.
Donna Jean Roeper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Roper, turned seven on Sunday and marked the occasion with an elaborate party for twenty three children. The games and play lasted until 4 30 with light refreshments served by Mrs. Roper.
