Gunnison schools will reopen next Monday after an influenza outbreak. Dr J A Hagan and school officials report the illness has abated and most homes show improvement, though many students remain home sick. high school will move to the new building ready for the first day.
A. Stanford, Salt Lake City political figure and recent school board resigner, spent Monday and Tuesday in Gunnison promoting Claredivee Bamberger for United States senator. He visited Juab and Sanpete counties and reports strong, favorable reception across towns and cities.
Mrs J W Edwards entertained numerous relatives and friends at an anniversary party at her home on Wednesday afternoon and evening. An elaborate dinner for twenty five was served at six. After dinner a delightful evening followed with violin and piano solos featured as Lola was played and enjoyed, aided by her daughters Leona and Berdella Edwards.
Bert Gribble of Gunnison, a leading young stockman in Sanpete County, married Daveda Olson of Snow Normal College last Wednesday at Mand. Bishop N. P. Peterson performed the ceremony. Attending were Hans Olson, Gladys Gribble, and Elmer Nielson. The couple will reside in Gunnison and were greeted with warm congratulations. A wedding supper for the couple was hosted by W. H. Gribble last evening.
The partnership between J C Paterson and Klemer Nielson operating the Toggery has been dissolved. The desk was closed the first of the week with Mr Peterson senior taking over business affairs and running the store as before. Mr Nielson will stay on for a time and likely pursue a new venture.
Gun nison Guard Mount Post 104 plans spacious club quarters in the Van Nordeck building once used by the high school. The men seek public donations of furniture and wall decorations to outfit the rooms as a notable new city gathering place. the post, now thirty members, hopes to grow and invite patriotic support for 1922 American Legion campaign.
Gun nison Valley Canning company board of directors will meet tomorrow evening to decide pea planting, seed needs, and other matters including building sites. A full general meeting was canceled due to widespread sickness. only board members will attend.
Marshal R L Tollestrup and his two sons Ross and Wesley will manage the 80 acre Tollestrup farm in Delta during the summer after traveling there yesterday morning.
A ancient Greek goddess statue, once owned by a German in Paris, was seized by France during the war. It later passed through Switzerland to Germany. France now asserts ownership of the highly valued state art.
The Gunnison Guard Mount Post 104 American Legion designates Monday March 20 for a service census by local legionaries and other Utah legions. The drive aims to enroll every veteran, offer services such as vocational training and hospital care, collect names and addresses, and promote support for adjusted compensation. Committees are excited and pledge stronger communities and post organizations to aid former servicemen.
Clarence Madsen plans to leave for Salt Lake City next Sunday and return midweek. In the capital city he will buy a new Ford truck, one of the latest models with a self starter, to assist on the mail line and stage operations. He expects improved and faster service for patrons once the vehicle is in operation.
Local youths report the arrival of spring by catching several large sucker fish from the river amid lingering snow banks. Warm sun and rising water encouraged the fishing spree with boys returning home proudly with good catches and declaring the bite “bitin' good.”
Hugh Halverson of Wasatch academy in Mt Pleasant visited his parents in Gunnison on Sunday. F W Peterson of Manti spent days in town for business, guest of his brother J C Peterson. LaBarth Fieldsted, called for his mother’s illness and death, returned to Provo. he attends con t lere at Garden City. Presbyterian church services, suspended for two weeks due to an epidemic, will resume next Sunday. John E Mellor of Gunnison Valley bank attended the directors meeting in town. N C Myrup, wintering with his family in Gunnison, left for the Uinta basin to work with Bown Livestock company for the summer. Fred J Fjeldsted, Tooele music instructor, returned to duties after his mother’s illness and funeral. Miss Ruth Perkins, teaching at Santaquin, visits home. takes a week's vacation to care for her ailing mother.

Erastus Sr. Sorenson, prominent Gunnison valley farmer, died at Centerfield last Friday morning after influenza progressed to pneumonia. Funeral was held outdoors Sunday at 3:30 with A C Pjeldsted and CG Larson delivering addresses and a choir singing. interment followed at Centerfield cemetery. He was 62, born in Scipio, survived by wife Zoe, two daughters Hida and Fannie, and five sons Maya Alva LaMar Boyd and Ivan.
Miss Michel Christensen daughter of Centerfield residents and Ross Peterson son of local couple were married last Wednesday at the Manti temple. A reception at the Petersen home followed but influenza limits attendance. The bride and groom received warm wishes from numerous friends as music and games lightened the evening.
Reverend A V Boand of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian will lead special services at the Gunnison Presbyterian chapel next Thursday evening. He is described as an interesting speaker and invites all to attend the services.
A hand written Bible, five feet two inches high and three feet six inches wide, has drawn two thousand contributors. When opened, the book measures seven feet across. Twelve goat skins were used, and it will tour England on a motor car with a pulpit and platform before coming to America.
The fifth Annual Intermountain Livestock Show opens in North Salt Lake in April with a new stock building, extensive preparations at Salt Lake Union stock yards, and growing exhibitor interest. Attendance is expected to exceed prior years as cattle sheep and swine breeders ship stock ahead for sale and officials report strong publicity and reduced travel rates for visitors.
The regular 2 o'clock meeting will resume at the Relief society hall next Sunday afternoon and the Mutual meetings will restart Sunday evening at the usual hour. These services were stopped two weeks ago due to the influenza outbreak in the city.
Representatives from Aurora Salina Redmond Axtell Centerfield Fayette Westview Clarion Sterling Gunnison met at Gunnison City Hall last Saturday evening and declared beet growers across districts serving the local sugar factory will seek a $5.50 guarantee price on a 48 to 62 sliding scale. They also demand the same price at outlying stations as at the factory. A committee of eight was named to request the factory specials consider the proposal.
