Utah lawmakers wrapped the session after killing 106 bills as time ran out. Most were House originated with the enacting clauses struck from 67 House bills and 28 Senate bills. The session closed with confirmations of governor appointments and a formal resignation from Senate President McKay.
Mr and Mrs Joseph Christen sen of Centerfield welcomed about thirty friends who invaded their home unannounced for a social evening. The guests enjoyed Progressive Five Hundred and other games and music, ending with a late celebration and a midnight picnic lunch.
The Rev Arthur V Boand of Mt Pleasant will fill his regular appointment this evening and preach from the Presbyterian Chapel pulpit on Your Memorial Name. The public is invited. Boand a Westminster College Princeton Theological Seminary graduate is in his third Mt Pleasant year during which time the church was built at a cost of 25000 dollars. Evening service starts at eight. Mrs J B Christensen guest of Mr and Mrs Earl Christensen at Centerfield has returned home to Manti.
National Forests of Utah report rising game numbers under District Forester R H Rutledge. Census shows 14 619 mule deer 1 189 elk and 118 mountain sheep within forests with additional deer elk and sheep outside. Deer rising by about 3000 in 1922 despite hunter kills and predation. Some declines noted on Minidoka and Powell forests in Utah and Kaibab in Arizona. Elk expanding, 300 more statewide in 1922. About 1.5 million acres of Utah National Forest land are state game refuges aiding deer growth.
The Gunnison farm bureau auxiliary plans an active year with dress form drafting dressmaking millinery and food demonstrations among features. The first meeting is March 24 at Gunnison high school attendees to pay $4 membership if husbands are non members and bring lunch for a full day program with forms to be studied and six to be made.
Miss Florence Jensen daughter of Mr and Mrs Anton Jensen Cen terfield and Clifton Edwards a Gunnison native wed in Salt Lake City this morning in a quiet ceremony. Only a few guests attended and a family reception will follow at the Jensen home. After a brief visit the couple will reside in Eureka with Mr Edwards employed at a mining company. Mrs Edwards is a well known social figure in the southern county. Royal Buchanan and daughter left for Sevier to visit D P Ross and expected to return tomorrow evening.
The first days of March saw lambs appear but recurring blizzards and windstorms threaten sheep and cattle. Stockmen report heavy losses possible for those lacking shelter while prolonged snow covers grazing, reducing pasture and forcing extra feeding. Some flocks and herds remain safe due to shelter, but overall the valley faces difficult losses without improved conditions.
Brice McBride, Sevier river water commissioner, says flood risk is lower this year barring unusual events. He notes 560 second feet at Westview bridge, cites Piute Reservoir capacity and fortified canals, says mountain snow is well packed and inflows at U B dam kept at 76 feet to allow waste for emergencies.
W QR Pairbourn, a colonizing agent for the Gunnison Valley Sugar company, left for Salt Lake yesterday morning. Miss Mary Swalberg visited relatives and returned to Marysvale. F W McMillan visited from Dividend and praised Gunnison men there. Mrs Hannah Rasmussen Ephraim and Mrs Kate Buckwell Salt Lake with Lawrence Buckell will stay with the Rasmussens. Miss Edna Nelson hosted twenty Bee Hive Girls for sewing and social time. Howard Norman celebrated his birthday with a dinner party and Progressive Five Hundred honors went to Mrs Toney Willardson and R C G Norman. A baby girl was born to Mr and Mrs W James at Fayette. Elisa Anderson returned home from visiting the Percys. Mrs Charles Rasmussen and Moyle Rasmussen attended an anniversary party in Ephraim. Leona Edwards of the Smart Shop goes to Salt Lake to shop for Easter hats. D C Larsen from Summit visits home before returning to the railroad town. Mr and Mrs Ira Jensen of Axtell welcome a baby girl weighing 10 pounds. Fred H Jones of Gunnison Valley Bank spent a Saturday evening at Richfield for Maganic lodge work.
A statewide health drive led by the state farm bureau urges Utah communities to clean and beautify. In Gunnison the campaign plans a one week push in April to remove filth, repair fences, paint homes, and improve yards.
J A Tuft and his son Bayard have returned from a two week visit to California. They met John Tuft and family in Huntington Beach and Mr and Mrs Clyde Tuft in Escondido. They also visited San Diego Los Angeles Riverside and ocean resorts. The Tufts report a splendid time and note John and Clyde Tuft are prospering in southern California.
Carbon county American Legion units gear up for August convention entertaining Utah legionaries. Price post budgets 1500 for two days while Hiawatha post spends 1000 for the second day hosting the guests. Other county posts and eastern state units join in for a big time next August.
County commissioners announced an appropriation of 2000 for emergency repairs on the state highway between Centerfield and Axtell. They pledged 3000 at a meeting in Manti, with 1000 cut from the appropriation and a provision to requisition it if 2000 proves insufficient. The plan includes sharing work on the north end and preparing for spring farming. A 35000 bond for Gunnison Valley concrete paving is to be discussed with the state road commission.
John and Peterson, a merchant- contractor, completed a radio installation at his dance hall. Tests with headphones and concerts from San Francisco, Fort Worth, Denver and other distant locations indicate broadcasts heard about 1800 miles away. Plans include a loud speaker and other additions for concerts and dances.
Paul Duggins entertained fourteen of his friends at an anniversary party last Saturday afternoon from two to six. After games and romping had been enjoyed by the little guests, Mrs. Duggins served a delicious luncheon.
