Mrs. Catherine Nielson Anderson of Manti died February 26 after a long illness. Born March 30, 1870, she married Andrew C. Anderson in 1889. he preceded her nine years earlier. Surviving children include Leo of Oakland, Geneva Westenskow, Alta Crouser, Gladys Christensen, and Wilford of Manti, with eleven grandchildren and five brothers and one sister. Funeral February 28 at the North Ward chapel with services led by Bishop KE Reid.
Mr and Mrs C L Thorpe of Ax Tell entertained friends at a turkey dinner and social afternoon Sunday. The event, the social highlight of the week in the sister town, featured guests including Mr and Mrs Fred Tilton Mr and Mrs R J Gaddie Mr and Mrs J M Knighton Mr Sam Seibert Mrs Matilda Nelson and Arthur Nelson from Salina Gunnison and Axtell respectively.
Regulations for 1938 crop production loans issued by the secretary of agriculture are available to farmers in this county via P. C. Peterson Jr. The process flows through the county advisory committee to Salt Lake City. Loans, limited to 300 dollars per borrower or 1200 per landlord per county, require a first lien on crops and wage waivers from prior lenders. Repayment by October 31, 1983 at 4.5 percent interest. Gunnison Bulldogs defeated Ephraim 32 to 25 on the Gun nison court to secure a spot in the state tournament. Led by Woodrow Beck with 13 points, the team also advanced coach Payton Alexander’s lineup to Salt Lake City for the state contest.
Representatives of the Conoco Travel Bureau arrive by bus to promote free motor travel services for 1933. The bureau reports 143,389 planned trips last year involving roughly 500,000 people, with average tour distances around 3,500 miles and total travel distance near 436 million miles.
The Gunnison Sugar company announced the 1933 beet contract terms, mirroring 1932 with no minimum price and a two tier sliding scale. Growers would receive half the income as beets payments while the other half goes to the manufacturer, with no tariff provisions. Hart J. Sanders and L. J. Arnold will handle local matters.
Mrs John Peterson and daughter Arda hosted a miscellaneous shower for Miss Clara Jensen at their Centerfield home Monday evening. Forty five guests attended a tray luncheon at eight thirty with a vocal solo by Inez Jackson and a prize awarded to Mrs Lenard Jensen. Gifts were exchanged and the event featured progressive rock entertainment.
Poultry expert Carl Frischknecht says even with low egg prices a productive flock can earn above feed costs by good production and home mixed grain feeds. Now is the time to clean coops remove litter and decaying matter burn carcasses and improve drainage to prevent disease and pests.
Ira Overfelt cashier and C B Andersen assistant cashier of Gunnison Valley Bank left for Salt Lake Tuesday after a message from Salt Lake bankers. It was understood bankers from across the state were summoned to attend a meeting at the Newhouse hotel Tuesday evening to discuss state banking problems.
Mrs J M Knighton entertained twenty four intimate lady friends with a turkey dinner at seven pm on Wednesday. The table centerpiece featured sweet peas and potted plants. A progressive bridge game followed with first honors to Mrs Ray Metcalf, second to Mrs Chas Lund, and third to Mrs June Metcalf.
Due to unsettled banking conditions the discount period for paying Teluride Power bills is extended to March 20. The notice warns customers to use the extended deadline to receive the discount on their payments.
