High Tribute For Joseph Willardson

Funeral rites for Joseph Willardson held in Gunnison chapel as relatives and business associates from Richfield Monroe Salina Mayfield Ephraim Manti and Salt Lake gathered. Speakers from Ephraim Mayfield Manti and Gunnison stake praised his life and family, followed by a musical program and interment at Gunnison City Cemetery.

Utah campus to plant state flora in new U Garden

Dr. Walter P. Cottam leads a plan to create a large outdoor botanical garden at the University of Utah featuring 8 000 to 14 000 Utah plant varieties. The garden will curate species from Dixie to the mountains, with expeditions to Wayne and San Juan counties for future plant collections. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. McIntyre visited Provo for a day.

Beloved Pioneer Hansen Hansen Laid to Rest in Centerfield

Mrs. Johanna Caroline Borro Peterson Hansen an 82 year old Utah pioneer died after a brief illness at her son Bishop Chris A Petersons Centerfield home. Born in Aarhus Denmark on August 10 1852 she lived a life of leadership with L D S mission ties before emigrating in 1898. She leaves a son a daughter a stepdaughter nineteen grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Centerfield ward meeting house with Bishop Peterson in charge.

AAA Plans to Continue Programs in 1935

With farm prices staying well below parity, the Agricultural Adjustment Administration will not abandon any current program in 1935. Director William Peterson reports that parity remains distant for several commodities, and despite some gains, farmers still face a difficult year without further consumer buying power and industrial growth.

Musical numbers at service and graveside rites

The program included Abide With Me Danish song sung by Ida B. Nielson and I Know That My Redeemer Lives by Eva Johsen, a closing Behold Behold eventide. Benediction by Oswell Beck followed by interment at Gun nison cemetery. Gilbert Fijeldsted played a cornet solo and Hans C. Jensen dedicated the grave.

ThirteenYear Record Is Broken by Recent Storms

Officials in the Manti forest service at Ephraim report March 1 snow and water content on the Great Basin station slightly above the 13 year average. Heavy storms over the weekend are expected to boost moisture, with records showing 14.30 inches of water content in 1935 the high for the period. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Olsen of Redmond visited the Olsen home Saturday.

Snowstorms Shatter Week Records Across Southern Utah

Week of storms blankets Southern Utah with two to six inches in valleys and foothills and two to three feet in the mountains. Water content runs high with 0.83 inch at Gunnison Sugar offices. Panguitch tops 12 inches. South Sevier weaker. Widespread snow packs lift conditions above last year.

1934 Utah Income Tax Rules Clarify Filing Deadlines

The Utah legislature debates income tax law changes but states that 1934 filing remains due by March 15, 1935 to the State Tax Commission in Salt Lake City or branches. A judge's decision on a filing fee does not alter resident liability, and the new bill affects 1936 and later returns. Cooperation of residents will reduce administration costs.

Specialist Advises on Fattening Hogs in Utah Bulletin

The Utah Agricultural Experiment Station issued a bulletin titled Summer and Winter Rations for Fattening Hogs. H. H. Smith and E. J. Maynard report experiments on tankage skimmilk powder and semi solid skimmilk protein with ground barley or wheat in dry-lot or alfalfa pasture. They also assess alfalfa pasture value for fattening swine and compare barley and wheat in different rations.
