Celebration Opens Tonight in Gunnison Independence Day Festivities
Independence Day observations begin tonight in Gunnison at City Park with a variety show at 7 pm and a fireworks display to cap the evening. The schedule spans July 3 to July 4 including sunrise salute, Main Street parade, park program at 1 am, and a full day of sports and rodeo events featuring Gunnison Valley Riding Club, Mantl Riding Club, and local sponsors.

Faytte Man Ernest Robinson Dies After Heart Attack
Ernest Robinson 47 of Fayette died Monday afternoon at 3 65 p.m. from a heart attack while alighting a freight car at the Denver Rio Grande depot in Gunnison. Born May 19 1900 in Fayette he was a farmer and school bus driver, active in the L108 Church, served a two year mission in the Southern States and left a widow Bernice Person. survivors include four children and several relatives. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Henry McKenna Jr. died of a stroke in San Francisco on June 24. Born December 10, 1908 in Gunninen, he was the son of Meri and Chantie McKenna. He lived in Salina before moving to San Francisco with his wife Fenny Christensen. Survived by wife, two brothers, one sister, children Henry and Earl McKenna, Bert McKenna, Mel Pris Peterson, grandchildren, and many relatives. Funeral and burial held in San Francisco.

Long Illness Fatal To E. A. Bertelson
Elder Bertelson, 99, Gunnison Valley farmer and LDS Church elder, died after a long illness in Gunnison Valley Hospital. Born in Spring City to Antone and Marie, he moved to Delta theme County in 1915 and ranched before joining the Army in 1918. He served in France, was wounded, married Ethel Christine in Mantl, and lived in Amteil. He helped build the local chapel, led Willow Creek Irrigation, and was an officer in the organization. survived by daughter Mira Oscar (Hel) Butler in Ogden and two others.

Auto Wrecked By Sheep In Rural Crash
An estimated 25000 damage occurred when a LGG Chevrabet sedan struck a sheep at 10:45 am Thursday, 2 miles north of Gunnkeon on Mighwiy 2a. The car carried four occupants, none injured. Driver Nellie Reynolds and passenger Geraldine Wright, both of Bastle, Washington, were unhurt. Deputy Sheriff John Booman investigated. A visiting party from San Francisco stayed with the family.

H W Bement state director of aeronautics from Salt Lake visited Salina Montpelier and Meyer AC Prows Harold Pulse chair of the port and Eo Seth Petersen Saline County airport officials discussed maintenance and runway spraying weed control. The airport is city owned serving Suling and Gunnison with plans to grade runways and curb weeds. Project cost was 6000 dollars with potential federal aid.
