Gunnison hosts a July celebration with Lions Club and junior chamber contestants Gwenivere Luit Janet Kate and Bonnie Buchanan. Finalists compete Saturday night with a queen crowned by Mayor Embrey. crowning at the Star Theatre between shows. Tuesday totals list Gwenivere Dart with 00,000.
Gunnison Mayfield edged Fairview for a tough victory Sunday at Mayfield. Keith Christiansen started and earned four first inning runs before Hal Jessen relieved. Relief by Don Kane and others kept Fairview from a bigger comeback. Final scores show Gunnison Mayfield with six runs to Fairview’s six.
The Associated Civic Clubs of Southern and Eastern Utah plan a July 10 meeting in Loa with an executive session at 10:00 am and a directors and public meeting at 2:30 pm in the Wayne County Court House. A banquet hosted by the Wayne Wonderland Lions Club will cap the day, with speakers including W. R. White of the Utah Manufacturers Association and Ames K. Bagley, executive secretary. Guests from State Road Commission, State Fish and Game Association, and Utah Parks will attend. Representatives from San Francisco and Miami travelers visited Utah en route home.

Pickett son of Mr and Mrs Merrill Pickett Gunnison is among 1400 cadets at the 184 ROTC Summer Camp Fort Lewis Washington for six weeks ending July 11 1634 He will receive officer training emphasizing General Military Science and upon graduation from Logan College may be eligible for an Army Reserve commission and ROTC consideration
The Gunnison community hosts a large Independence Day festival with a morning parade route, a 10 30 am patriotic program at City Park led by Grover Childs Jr, and participation from the Gunnison Valley High Band. An afternoon slate includes a softball game, swimming at the pool, and a top rodeo in the evening featuring local riders. The event also features the Sweetheart from Senpele County Fair and appearances by civic groups and riding clubs.

A baby boy was born last week at Gunnison Ves Ley Hospital weighing 24 pounds and named Jupe Bow. Parents are Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Coates of Gunnivon.
The passenger car of Mr and Mrs Ken Jensen was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning. The gasoline lantern left in the car likely exploded, setting the interior ablaze. Firefighters and volunteers prevented the flames from reaching the Jensen residence and other nearby buildings.
