The Western Colorado Beet Grower emphasizes the beet contract as the foundation of broad agricultural credit. It promises growers a market and minimum price, supports financing, and stabilizes regional business activity, urging scrutiny of those who undermine contract signups.
A party of 26 Richfield residents from the Just-a-More club attended a Friday evening at the Wistaria. They enjoyed a turkey dinner and then played progressive bridge into the late hours, sharing entertainment and companionship.
The Gunnison Valley Fish and Game Protective Association under secretary Carl A. Erikson organizes feeding for abundant Chinese pheasants across the valley. Stations at Christianburg Axtell and Sevier River areas will distribute wheat feed as needed to prevent bird deaths during harsh weather.
Notice corrects a prior error in the Mountain States Honey Producers association meeting date. The gathering at Centerfield now is set for Saturday January 25 replacing the January 20 publication.
A broken water pipe in the heating system forced the school to suspend work and grant a vacation Monday and Tuesday for repairs. Wednesday morning brought another break from study as the cold from the recent storm overwhelmed the inadequate heating system.

Activities begin with troop reorganizations in Clarion and Gunnison district. Clarion selects EB Frandsen as chairman with Hyrum Domgaard housing and LeRoy Lund instruction. WN Gregerson leads camping. Wilford Westlund supervises public demonstrations. Ivan Squires named scoutmaster. Gunnison district reorganization names A. E. Park chairman and assigns camping John Anderson and others. A meeting with W. G Barton set for next Sunday to outline 1930 activities.
R A Cox and E H Hite of the Utah Idaho division, with G B Bateman his successor, met Ira Overfelt in Gunnison on official business. Overfelt will handle Gunnison express operations with offices at the Gunnison Valley Bank. Local office hours will be 9 AM to 5 PM.
The Treas Jouli club held its annual dinner party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Met calf. An elaborate dinner, followed by music and cards, provided the delightful features of the social event.
Napoleon Hill, famed lecturer and writer, spoke to large audiences at Gunnison Valley High School on Monday and Tuesday evenings. He discussed the Law of Success, shared struggles toward fame and wealth, and offered practical experiences that impressed his listeners.
Governor Geo H Dern requests withdrawal of about 9 840 acres in Kane county and 480 acres in Wayne county to form state parks. The lands feature cliff dweller ruins prehistoric inscriptions and natural bridges. The state park commission will consider declaring them parks. Rep Joseph Hickman who favored a Kane county park died in 1927 when his boat capsized.
Arctic weather grips the valley with subzero temperatures from Monday afternoon through late Tuesday. Government thermometer at the sugar factory records 22 below noon Tuesday and 29 below zero Wednesday morning. A brief warm spell returned after sun breaks, with minimal injuries beyond stalled cars and some broken pipes. Gunnison citizens aided the needy with provisions and fuel.
Former Sanpete county residents now in Salt Lake City plan the annual reunion at the Hotel Utah on Saturday night. Invitations have been sent to county natives, with a banner turnout anticipated. A banquet, music, addresses by notable former Sanpete men, and a large dance will key the festivities.
Weather reports say snowfall and rising reservoir levels assure ample irrigation water for farming and stock. Plute reservoir rose from 15 000 acre feet to 31 000 acre feet, Otter Creek from 7 000 to 22 000, with Sevier Gun nison Highland reservoirs up about fifty percent. Watersheds are heavily snow packed, signalling much better conditions than 1929.
Mrs. Annie Christensen died at home last week. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 PM from the Relief Society hall. Bishop Leslie Kidman led the service with sermons by Kidman and Joseph A. Larson. Friends praised her affection for family and home, with poems and music by a quintette. Interment followed at Gunnison City cemetery in the family plot.
Officers of the Gunnison Valley Fish and Game Protective association were reappointed for the coming year at the annual meeting. The group aims to grow membership, increase fingerings and pheasant stock, and push for a local deputy game warden to curb out of season killings.
Twelve stockmen from the Willow Creek Grazers Association plus Albert Albertson of Salina and Ranger Albertsen met at Axtell last Monday for the annual gathering. Reports praised funds spent on Willow Creek division cattle herding and salting, fence construction, and a branding chute.
The M Men of Mayfield ward served more than 100 invited guests with a complete chicken supper and all the fixings. They hosted the event and organized games and the program with help from the community activity committee.
Announcement from Gunnison relatives notes the death of Dina Elizabeth McDowell of Star Idaho on January 8. Born September 28 1879 in Gunnison she was a Mormon and auxilary worker. She leaves husband Charles and two children Ralph and Leslie Williams and four sisters and a brother in Gunnison and surrounding areas.
