Mrs Clara Ludvigson joined the board of directors. Peter Christiansen was elected secretary succeeding J H Roylance. Financial reports show sound finances.
Primary officers of the Gunnison ward hosted a teachers organization party at Mrs. W. H. Farr's home on Monday evening. A seven o'clock hot luncheon preceded entertaining games. Prizes were won by Mrs. S. J. Duggins and Mrs. L. L. Childs.
G W Sorenson of Gunnison Valley Motor Co and a local Ford dealer announces a new Ford Motor company finance plan. Cars may be bought for as low as 25 dollars a month after a small down payment. The plan includes complete insurance covering fire theft and collision with a 50 dollar deductible and protection from windstorm floods and other perils.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Bore of Tichfield were dinner guests at J E L Berg’s home in a casual social visit. The event highlights local hospitality and neighborhood ties in the community.
The Sanpete County Resettlement office will be closed January 16 to 18 as supervisor Leslie J. Kidman assistant David Evans and homemaker supervisor Hannah H. Wells attend a state Resettlement Administration convention in Logan. The group will discuss policies and procedures. about 100 farmers have received loans, with 85 applications on file in Manti and the program has run for about twelve months, replacing former supervisor Nyles Christensen.
National Park Service reports heavy yet wet snow on Cedar Breaks Duck Creek and Harris Flat with depths from 16.9 to 40 inches and water contents from 3.9 to 5.6 inches. Despite moisture, ski conditions remain poor due to fluffy snow. Park naturalist C. C. Presnall and assistant W. S. Long note long uphill times and reliance on shelter cabins provided by forest service and Utah authorities.
Lamar Larson of Gunnison serves on Brigham Young University extension bureau staff guiding visual aids for thousands of students in intermountain states. The bureau provides 23 miles of educational films and 20 000 still pictures including sheets and slides. Larson inspects film strips and slides and helps operate nine slide projectors in schools. The bureau’s annual film mileage runs about 1350 miles per year across 57 showings. Secretary F Wilcken Fox notes sixteen staff members. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Mitchell and their son returned to Salt Lake City after visiting here and Salina.
Mies Leola Sorenson daughter of Mr and Mrs Marlin Sorenson Centerfield and Blaine Bartholomew son of Mrs Selena Harthalew Payette were quietly married at the St George temple on Wednesday. Witnesses were the bride’s parents. The couple will honeymoon in Arizona and California for a month or more after spending a day at Shoulder Dam following the ceremony.
Dean FE J Maynard of Utah State College urges farmers to prepare for the 1936 draft horse pulling season. He notes that contests began in 1923 and Utah hosts about 25 pulls yearly, open to all owner entries with purebred or mixed stock. Emphasis is on compatibility, steady work, and body conformation, with winners often having strong heart girth and good legs. sickle hocks or curved limbs are a disadvantage.
The Sanpete district league opened with close results. North Sanpete edged Manti 37 to 36, Ephraim beat Wasatch 80 to 27, Moroni led Gunnison 48 to 24 but Gunnison surged back. Moroni held early advantage before Gunnison rallied late.
Price lists for forest trees for windbreaks and shelterbelts are mailed from Utah State Agricultural College. Over 10,000 trees of 11 species ready for distribution, including hardwoods and evergreens, range from six to forty eight inches and sell at nominal prices. The program since 1930 has planted over 200,000 trees on Utah farms under Clark McNary law cooperation.
Gunnison Valley Bank reported earnings up about 40 percent for 1906 compared with 1994 figures despite drought. Charles Rasmussen elected president, succeeding O. L. Malmgren. Andrew Modeen joins board. Ira Overfelt reelected vice president and cashier. Dr J A Hagan becomes second vice president. Additional appointments include C E Andersen as assistant cashier and Marie Gledhill as second assistant cashier.
More short courses will be offered during the fifteenth Annual Leadership Week to satisfy broad demands. Thirty three departments are preparing programs for thousands of religious and social leaders from across North America. The week runs January 27 to 31 with BYU department chairs and other experts coordinating.
Members at Mrs. Ira Overfelt’s home elected Mrs. L. G. Anderson as official director for the coming year. Anderson will serve as president, secretary and treasurer. The group discussed this month’s annual party and named a committee to plan the affair. Following business, members spent time at contract 44 thy.
