Forest Fires Ravage National Forest Land in 1923 Losses
The 1923 fire season burned 73,214 acres of National Forest land and destroyed timber and property valued at 494,965 dollars, not including young growth. Man caused 64 percent of fires, lightning 36 percent. Smokers, incendiaries, campers, and railroads were key sources. Locals Stage Bout For Xmas Shoppers In Gunnison

Oden Christensen and Elbert Modeen fought briefly in front of the post office, led to arrests by Marshal Tollestrup, and each fined ten dollars after pleading guilty. The clash followed earlier tension at a Sunday high school service involving a pin pricking Christensen.

A blustery storm dogged his journey home from Fayette where a culvert board had been removed, stalling his car and requiring horses to free it. Dancing Club Honors At Progressive Five Hundred Night

New Archaeology Courses Highlight Winter Quarter
