John Allmendinger left Gunnison at five in the morning and sent a message from Long Beach at 7 40 that evening, establishing a coast trip record. Mrs Allmendinger and Miss Irene Allmendinger accompanied him as they traveled in a Chrysler Imperial. The journey took a little over 14 hours and the party planned to spend the holidays with relatives on the coast and return around January 8.
