From Salt Lake City headquarters Gunnison falls short of the Christmas seal purchase goal while neighboring communities report strong sales. A drive will intensify with delegates visiting stores and citizens urged to buy seals from ten cents to a dollar to restore Gunnison’s standing and support health causes.
Parley Christiansen, mayor-elect and Sanpete county state road agent, returned from Salt Lake City where he learned that the Gunnison Axtell road project may have contracts let this fall with work starting early next spring, pending word from Washington.

Gunnison high school basketball fell 20 to 13 to Millard high in a fast Saturday night exhibition. Hafen refereed the game as Gunnison showed solid form despite the loss during the Mills Tour.
Tomorrow evening at Gunnison High School auditorium the Washington school pupils present the annual Christmas celebration at 7 30. Admission is free and the faculty asks cooperation of parents and citizens. Highlights include The Convenient Chimney Serenading Santa and A Christmas Crazy Class with Rena Peterson Helen Overfelt and other named pupils performing various songs recitations and the Christmas story.
Sunday School members in Gunnison ward host a Christmas program with a 10 30 start featuring address story recitations songs and a kindergarten and primary act. An afternoon dance for city children with Santa Claus follows at the Relief Society hall.

Gunnison Valley Sugar Company posts a $1.50 per ton bonus to beet growers, totaling about $50,000, mailed to arrive Christmas Eve. The advance payment sets a western industry record, with growers now at $7.00 per ton for the current beets and an expected total above $8.50 per ton. The president, W Harvey Ross, urges larger 1924 beet plantings and promotes Diamond Brand sugar to support local growers.
Assured by the Bureau of Internal Revenue, prompt service will be provided for the 1923 income tax returns. From January 1 to March 15, 1924, forms for individual, corporate, partnership, fiduciary and other returns will be available at the Salt Lake City office and branches in Ogden, Logan, Provo, Price and Richfield. Form 1040A has been revised for incomes up to 5000 from salaries and wages and is a single sheet with three questions.
Mrs. L M Larsen hosted a trousseau tea at her home with daughter Miss Mabel Larsen assisting. The event honored Miss Larsen whose marriage is today at Centerfield. Many friends attended and presented gifts. refreshments were served at 3:30 PM.
D H Whitenburg agriculturist for the Gunnison Valley Sugar company left for Salt Lake yesterday morning. After a brief stop he will continue to Denver to spend Christmas with friends and relatives. He plans to return to Gunnison around January first.
