Santa Claus will arrive December 19 at 3 p.m. at the Gunnison Community tree on Main and Firm South Streets. The event is organized by the Gunnison Jaycees with Telluride Power Company and local groups. letters from children will be collected and a Christmas pageant follows. The Jaycees sponsor a residential light contest with prizes for top displays, judged by Christmas.
A German family of six emigrants from Ther, Germany arrives Saturday to join the Gunnison Valley. The Langheinrich family includes Mr. and Mrs. Langheinrich, their son and daughter-in-law Armin Langheinrich, and two young sons Frank and Klaus. They are sponsored by Hoyul Buchanan of Gunnison and a benefactor from Twin Falls Idaho. Elder Langheinrich, a plumber and furnace manager, plans to open a local photography shop on December 14 to provide holiday portraits. the family will reside in the Leon Emblex duplex rear apartment.

The Gunnison Second Ward MLA will present two Christmas plays at the Gunnison Chapel on December 14 at 7:00 PM. Miss Renee Jorwis directs the performances and Miguel Kingte Ailen leads the musical portion. All are invited to attend.
A local initiative formed a School Safety Patrol at the corner of Main and Corton to supervise child crossings over Highway 89. Teachers and the Jaycees organized the effort with Jaycee leader Mr Schick arranging equipment and supervision by the city marshal to enforce traffic signals during school hours.
