Funeral services for Mrs. Willera Anderson Nielson were held at the Scout Lodge and Gunnison City cemetery with Bishop Jos A Larson presiding. Born April 23 1897 in Centerfield she was 36. Survived by her parents two sons six sisters and two brothers. Attendees from Salt Lake included several relatives and friends.
Mrs. John B. Millar formerly Helen Hagan of this city, visiting California relatives, was the guest of honor at a well appointed party and miscellaneous shower hosted by Mrs. J. B. Roper and Mrs. Clarence Madsen. A dinner for twenty preceded a bridge game and gift opening.
The wheat allotment plan is described as initiated by a farmer and nearly identical to farmer proposals. Farmers joining the Wheat Production Control Association align with their national group and support the scheme. Utah farmers prepare for harvest and storage of field corn as kernels dent and leaves dry. Frost dates and trench silos dominate storage plans with bulletin No. 50 on trench silos offering frost tables and feeding value for livestock.
Mrs. John B. Millar daughter of Dr. and Mrs J A Hagan and a bride of last July was the focus of a miscellaneous shower at the Hagan home Tuesday afternoon. Hostesses were Mrs Hagan and Mrs H B Linnell. A chicken dinner for thirty six preceded gift opening and card games. Flowers brightened the setting as gifts included glassware silverware linen sets and more. A trousseau tea followed on Wednesday from two to five with about fifty guests. Millar planned to return to Los Angeles Friday.
Wilford Bauer pitched a complete game for the Gunners allowing three hits and one strikeout as Richfield fell 14 to 3. A Villard and Tol lestrup led at the plate with four hits each in six at bats, supporting 18 Gunners hits off Miller.
Final state 4-H exhibits and demonstrations will be held at Utah State Agricultural College in Logan September 18 to 20 with eight delegates per county due to limited housing. Contests cover livestock home economics forestry poultry crops judging health and demonstrations with a style dress revue. Livestock will be supplied by the college and entrants must bring halters and brushes.
Inspection by Gunnison Sugar Company staff and local fieldmen projects a record beet harvest for 1933 in Sanpete and Sevier counties. 8 000 acres planted in 1933 may yield about 100 000 tons, surpassing 1932’s 73 000 tons, with ideal growing conditions and rapid webworm control.
The Gunnison anglers Ira Overfelt and Gordon Sorenson hauled in a 17 pound 37 inch Mackinaw with 20 inch girth and a 1.5 pound baby Mackinaw at Fishlake last Saturday. Overfelt netted the big fish after Sorenson's jig worked the lure well. The story notes local visitors Roland Tietjen and family and Leo Mickelson returning from Salt Lake.
A two apartment frame house owned by Mayor John S. Peterson on East First South street was burned to the ground Monday at 6 PM. Neighbors fought the flames with hoses as water shortages hampered fire crews, while the brick home of Norman Johnson suffered water damage and loss of furnishings. Johnson is the Telluride Power Co division manager. Peterson returned from Salt Lake City to estimate the destroyed home at about 4000 dollars with partial insurance coverage.
O. L. Malmgren a leading honey producer from South San Pete county travels with daughter Roberta and companions Miss Berniece Sorenson Melva Fijeldsted Chrissie Nielson and Kirth Malmgren on a business and sightseeing journey. They plan to pass Fredonia Arizona and St George visiting the Mt. Carmel tunnel and Zion National Park.
