July Business Good Reports From Federal Reserve Survey

The Twelfth Federal Reserve District notes overall business activity remained high in July. Agriculture improved moderately with higher prices for wheat, potatoes and deciduous fruits boosting farm income. credit remained ample though rates rose slightly. Oil production in California hit a record July average of 68,108 barrels per day, easing prior overproduction concerns. Rail and wholesale activity stayed solid as summer trade stayed robust.

Former Gunnison Man Hurt in Auto Crash

P T Honey formerly manager for Gunnison Drug Company was in an auto crash while driving from Maryvale to Richfield. Pat Henry and Newt were struck by a speeding Ford. Henry was knocked unconscious, Newt lightly bruised as the car suffered heavy damage. Authorities warn canyon speeds are dangerous and should be moderated.

Game Commissioner J. Arthur Mecham sets dates for sage hens and grouse. August 21 and Sept 1 2 designated for grouse. Aug 1 to Sept 8 for morning doves. Death of Luetta Hofbein in Gunnison Leaves Family in Grief

Antone Christensen, a Fayette merchant, learned Tuesday of the death of his granddaughter Luetta Hofbein, aged four, daughter of Clarence and Mrs. Hofbein, a former Gunnison resident. Luetta contracted spinal meningitis and died shortly after. Simple funeral services were held Wednesday, and she was buried at Levan Cemetery.

Mary Beemus Mellor wife of William J Mellor died suddenly at the Fayette home at 8 pm Monday after a day of canning and baking. She had epilepsy and a weak heart and was found dead in an outbuilding with slight facial bruising. Contractors Rush Work on Highway Near Centerfield

Contractors led by J. G. Crompton of McMinnville Oregon push the Centerfield Redmond highway project toward completion by mid next week. A crew of about ten graders sprayers tractors and road machines work from Redmay toward Centerfield with two county participation on a 74 26 basis.
