Gunnison plans three new homes after transfers last Saturday by Arthur Johnson show faith in the town’s future. C W Perkins bought 20 feet on East Center Street with a new brick bungalow planned, costing about $4000. William Metcalf acquired a 60-foot tract east of Perkins for a modern five room brick bungalow to be built, later presenting it to his daughter. Adolph Peterson bought 100 feet east of Perkins for a modern dwelling to replace an old residence. Johnson’s 170-foot sale at $12 per foot sets a new residential high in Gunnison. June Metcalf bought ground with 60-foot frontage near Jim Kearns for $500. improvements unspecified but likely a substantial residence later.

Metcalf 10 Land Sells for Record Price in Gunnison Valley
The Metcalf 10 acre tract across San piteh creek sold Tuesday for 300 dollars per acre, totaling 323000, setting a new land price record in the Gunnison valley. William Metcalf had held the land since Territorial days with no mortgage or alternate use, and Tuesday it transferred to Ray Metcalf. The sugar beet field lies along the State road and marks the first deed transfer since title was secured decades ago.

Jones returns as wife recovers from surgery in Gunnison
J. W. Jones returns to Gunnison after a ten day absence in Salt Lake. He reports Mrs. Jones, recently operated on, is progressing well and should recover fully within a few weeks. She remains in hospital but may move to her parents’ home within the coming week.

Pioneer Lady Answers Call at Gunnison Valley Funeral
Margrith Jorgensen Hansen an early Gunnison Valley settler died at her son's Sterling home last Friday. Funeral services were held Sunday at her Axtell home under the trees she helped plant. Bishop Carl Nielson presided with Orion G. Sorenson conducting. The service featured O My Father and Sometime Somewhere, with speakers Charles H. Embley and Andrew C. Fjeldsted praising her. Burial was in Axtell cemetery. Born October 16, 1833 in Denmark she came to America in 1863 and Utah the same year, walking from Florence, Nebraska to Mantl leading a cow. She moved to Gunnison in 1864 and married Hans C. Hansen, later living in Centerfield and Axtell and active in Sunday School and Relief Society. She is survived by Hans C. Hansen, Jr., her son H. C. Hansen, four granddaughters and many great grandchildren.

Dies at Brigham City Father of Mrs. Francis
Dr. W. Holtz age about 75 died at his Brigham City home after a brief illness. Mrs. George Francis rushed north upon learning of his condition and was present at the end. Funeral services were held in Levan last Monday with interment in the family plot.

Clarion Ward Benefit for Harold Pace Draws Crowds
Clarion ward residents turned out in force for a benefit social last Thursday to aid Harold Pace who is ill with influenza. The event featured an engaging program and a dance, with ice cream and cake served. About 120 dollars was raised for Pace's care, and nearly every family in the ward attended.

In Southern Utah the Gunnison Cyclones defeated the Salina Whirlwinds 9 to 5 in a crowd filled with fans from Salina Richfield Mt. Pleasant Manti Ephraim and nearby towns. Jacobs started for Salina and was hit hard while Gunnison's Sanders infielders and Pace led a strong attack. McCormick at short had two costly errors but Salina fought to the end as both teams showed solid defense and Salina seeks another rematch.

Two Men Slightly Injured At Sugar Factory
Edward Ziller, a Sugar Factory employee, was bruised and sustained a back injury after a falling gun pole knocked him down last Monday. George Larson fell from a battery, hitting the cement floor twelve feet below. he was badly stunned but no bones were broken and will remain home for several days.

A two round demonstration between Age and Youth occurred near a confectionery store on Gunni son Street. The bout drew onlookers who watched as blows were exchanged and blood flowed from Age. The fight ended with bystander interference and no arrests.
