Pioneer Woman Mary Jorgensen Kearnes Dies in Gunnison
Mary Jorgensen Kearnes a longtime Gunnison resident and wife of Austin Kearnes died after seven years of ill health and a recent spine injury. Born 1846 in Denmark she joined the Mormon church and aided settlers during Italian wars. Survived by husband eleven children and many grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Gunnison Valley High School with local attendees.

Caleb E. Edwards of Wellington Utah a 75 year old ranch worker died at his home from a fractured skull suffered when he was struck from the rear by a hit and run driver on the Wellington main highway early Saturday morning. A large car going east is believed to have struck him and fled. Edwards was taken to his home by James Tidwell and died at 2 PM after his condition worsened. The sheriff’s office learned of the crash 28 hours later and had only the clue of a large eastbound car.

First Club Outing Proves Big Success
Gunnison and Centerfield led the county 4-H club outing at Palisade last Saturday with Rose Westlund of Gunnison and Grace Peterson of Centerfield commended for patching. Statewide interest grows as Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce reports 42 percent of national campaign space devoted to Utah. From April 17 to July 10, 2387 inquiries reached the chamber, about 80 percent seeking information on scenic attractions, 10 percent on mining and business, 5 percent on agriculture and 5 percent other. The Gunofson Lions club hosted a Friday night meeting at Relief Society hall where W H Olin of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad spoke on dairy economics.
