Indian War veterans from Gunnison and nearby areas travel to Springville for a four day state veterans encampment ending Friday. Attendees include J. A. Tutt, W. H. Certificate Sales Are Mounting in Treasury Program
The Treasury Department reports net cash sales of United States Treasury Savings Certificates for the year ending June 30, 1923, totaling $195,019,734 with $16,396,327 sold in this federal reserve district. Governor John A. Calkins of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, chairing the Government Savings Organization for the district, says sustained sales could carry about a billion dollars of the public debt in Savings Certificates, aiding government financing. Certificates are marketed as safe and profitable for small investors and can be obtained at post offices, Federal Reserve Banks, banks, and reputable bond houses. A new booklet How Other People Get Ahead, from the Treasury Saving Division, explains investment essentials and avoidance of risky ventures and is available free from the Government Savings Organization.

The Game Commission urges cooperation for Utah open season running September 1 to 10 in all counties except Uinta and listed preserves. Daily bag limit eight birds, season limit twelve. Basow Family Leaves Gunnison for Atlantic City Home
Mrs H S Basow and daughters Goldie Gladys Ruth Basow with Master Matthews Basow left Gunnison for Atlantic City New Jersey where they will reside. Mr Basow had moved ahead to establish a business in the eastern city. The Basows lived in Gunnison about ten years and Mr Basow, a former farmer, later ran a plumbing shop. Friends in the valley wish them happiness in their new home. Presbyterian church ladies and Sunday school members hosted a farewell entertainment for Mrs Basow and daughters with a children’s program followed by ice cream cake and punch.

He led the News-Advocate for twenty years, built up Utah resources, and served in civic and church roles before his funeral in Price and burial in Winterset Iowa.

Tracks Inundated After Cloudburst Flood Hits Canyons
A cloudburst in the eastern canyons sent mud water and debris toward Grove and the sugar factory station submerging railroad tracks. Farms suffered beet fields and crops damage while rail service was briefly delayed before crews cleared the line.

D&RGW Inaugurates New Rate Feature to Boost Travel
The Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad will start a new rate plan tomorrow to stimulate travel. It offers round trips from Southern Utah to Salt Lake and Ogden on Fridays and Saturdays at fare plus one tenth, valid fifteen days, with another option to sell tickets any day at a different fare to Salt Lake or Ogden. The special rate runs until September 30.

OFFICIALS MAKE BRIEF STOP T. H. Beacom newly appointed receiver for the Denver & Rio Grande Western railroad company and I. H Luke chief operating officer for the same company of Denver J.
