Gunnison officials led by Mayor Leon Embley warn that weed laden lots have become a serious fire hazard amid hot, dry weather. Fire department members say rapid weed growth threatens nearby property and prompts council to consider bond measures for control.
Altheron Barrow died August 1 from heart ailment. Funeral services held at Centerfield LDS Chapel with Bishop Allen Frandeen presiding. Music featured violin, organ, and vocal solos. burial at Centerfield City Cemetery.
The South Sanpete district releases the 30‑year school calendar adopted by the Board of Education. Highlights include August 28 opening, planned holidays for the Sanpete County Fair on September 6, UEA on October 10, a November break from the 2nd to the 20th, Christmas through early January, and a late May close with a two‑day spring vacation to be set by the Board.

A city park lighting project on the west side of Gunnison City Park, planned by the Gunnison Jo nker Chamber of Commerce, aims to illuminate softball and basketball play areas. Roger Andersen named general chairman with a committee including Robert Beck Clyde Rosenwall Paul Ball and Dwight Malmgren. Estimated cost 1600 dollars financed by club dues and donations. pledges welcome from members.
A county wide survey to assess rehabilitation needs of post polio patients will be conducted this month in Sanpete County. The effort is part of a national project by the Morone Foundation to locate polio survivors who may benefit from new techniques and medical evaluation.
New officers in the Gunnison American Legion Auxiliary were installed during a August 7 meeting at the home of Mrs Gilbert Fieldstead. District five view president presided. Officers include Mrs NP Nick son as president and several vice presidents, secretary treasurer, poppy chair, sergeant at arms, chaplain, historian, and reporter. Dorothy Yardley attended and reports were given on activities at Charbe State. Each member received a badge for representing the unit at the 1957 affair. Refreshments followed.
