County Poultrymen On Inspection Tour
One hundred fifty poultrymen in Sanpete County attended a July 31 tour at Ephraim and Manti with representation from Ephraim Manti Mayfield Center field Gunnison Clarion Moroni Ft Green Spring City Mt. Pleasant and Fairview. Luncheon host-neighbors included Nephi Ottoson as punch service and the program closed with lectures by Professor Byron Alder of the Agricultural College on feeding and handling eggs, plus a poultry culling demonstration and tips on diet and yellow pigmentation.

At a well attended Gunnison Lions meeting at the Gunnison cafe last week, six new cub Lions were initiated. Secretary Overfelt announced the club received a certificate from the International Association of Lions Clubs for 100 percent non drop membership in 1929-1930 and for maintaining the original roster. The meeting featured extemporaneous talks stressing efforts to build a greater Gunnison and Valley.

Bishop and Mrs. Leslie Kidman and others on the Gunnison ward building committee visited the Monroe Mormon church chapel to study needs and style for a new Gunnison church. On return they met flood waters from Sunday cloudbursts in Sevier county but reached home without difficulty.

Sanpete county schedules its annual fair in Manti on September 10 11 and 12 with farm exhibits horse pulling boxing baseball and other amusements. New features include mounted tug of war between Mount Pleasant and Manti Guard Units and a North South Sanpete club tug of war plus an old fashioned horseshoe tournament. 4 H and future farmers of America show strong interest with about fifty boys expected to enter animals and the Gunnison Sugar Company provides a fifty dollar prize for best sugar beets.

Local Beet Expert on Inspection Trip Reports Beet Nematode Spread
D H Whittenburg and about twenty-five Sevier county farmers plus agronomists from Utah and Washington completed an inspection tour in Sevier county and around Sigurd Aurora Vermillion and Salina. They observed sugar beets hay and grain noting a nematode incursion and Curley Top disease in beet fields. Crop rotation was cited as the effective control, with wheat Trebi barley and nursery tests in good condition and fields yielding up to eighty bushels per acre for wheat and up to one hundred bushels for Trebi barley. Alfalfa stands were excellent with a large second cut underway.

Salina Boy Killed in Flood Hour Automobile Crash
Que Reynolds twelve year old son of Mr and Mrs James Reynolds died from injuries after a car crash at Salina during flood hour heavy traffic. Dan Anderson driver of the truck carrying the boys lost control and struck an electric light pole. Reynolds was crushed between the pole and the vehicle and died at Salina hospital.
