Handcart Pioneer Dies at Mayfield

Stena Nielson wife of C R Nielson prominent in Southern Utah as a handcart pioneer died at her Mayfield home from a stroke Monday afternoon after being found unconscious by her son Hyrum Nielson. Born July 7 1860 in Denmark she crossed the plains at age one and lived in Manti Gunnison and Salina before settling in Mayfield. She leaves five children two living Oscar and Hyrum Nielson fifteen grandchildren and two brothers and sisters. Funeral set for Friday at 2 p m from the Mayfield chapel with Bishop Hans C Bogh in charge.

County wheat allotment under the agricultural adjustment plan is 151 518 bushels based on a 280 650 bushel five year average from 1928 through 1932. The quota equals 64 percent of the county average with district divisions listed for Utah and potential payments depend on participation. Former Resident Laid to Rest Here

Impressive burial services for Mrs Hannah Scow Voorhees a former Gunnison resident were held at Gunnison City cemetery Monday at 4 o clock following funeral services at Mayfield chapel. She died at Milford last Thursday after eleven weeks illness. Surviving are daughter Mrs Ross Palmer and two sons Lavor and Stanley Voorhees, all of Milford, plus grandparents and siblings.

Annual William Childs Reunion Attracts Eighty Attendees

About eighty descendants gathered for the third annual William Childs family reunion at Gun nison reservoir park. Activities included mixed program, songs, readings, talks, food baskets, races, horseshoe pitching, and an evening visit to the red ledges site. Officers were elected: Ben Childs president, L. L. Childs first vice president, and others filling secretary treasurer, historians, and committees.
