Cooperstown Ben-Hur Tribe installs 50 members in new state lodge

Deputy leaders Geo W Poague and Ralph W Simpkins install Cooperstown Court No 3 Tribe of Ben Hur in Odd Fellows hall with 50 members the largest charter in Cooperstown. The order, new to North Dakota, operates on uniform monthly payments based on mortality tables and will be supervised by Poague with state approval from July. Officers include Chief William L Stringer and Scribe Emil Simonson. Lunch follows installation.

Silver Medal Oratorical Contest At Courthouse

An oratorical temperance contest is planned for Friday evening September 20 at the courthouse. Six attractive young ladies will compete with Ruben's orchestra and vocal and instrumental soloists. Contestants are Cora Langford Edith Fiero Clara Brown Minnie Newberry Lizzie Johnson and Daisy Moffatt. Admission 25 cents. The W C T U meets at 3 this afternoon in the Congregational church.

President's condition update after Friday surgery

Bulletin from the President's physicians at 10:30 p.m. reports the President remains unchanged in major aspects. Temperature 100.6, pulse 114, respiration 28, with a skin wound irritation from a coat fragment requiring reopening and removal of a few stitches, delaying healing and prompting nourishment by pure beef juice. Buffalo report notes a slight worsening as stitches were removed due to irritation from the fragment.

Foul Play Feared in Bloomfield Fowler Case

A leather grip found one mile south of Castlewoop South Dakota holds Clothing and items for B A Fowler traveling for Thompson corsets and Co. News hints at possible murder with a wife letter and July 1901 expense receipt. An investigation is under way amid strong foul play suspicions.

Fessenden Threshing Boiler Blast Injures Tolbert Fireman

Tolbert, a fireman on Frank Shaw's threshing engine at Fessenden, was severely injured when the boiler exploded. The blast tore through straw, a wagon, and sent debris yards away, though no bones were broken. The boiler, deemed unsafe, sparked fires on grain stacks and scorched the separator before workers moved to safety.
