Temperance Notes Highlight WCTU Achievements
The National W C T U has built a vast network in the United States with ten thousand towns and cities, forming a force of 300 000 active members and a wider following. It organized 1000 new unions in 1900, created Loyal Temperance Legion youth groups, sent eight world missionaries, and helped expand international W C T U reach to 58 countries with 500 000 members. It secured temperance education, protective laws for girls, anti liquor and army post restrictions, police commissions in cities, and prompted thousands of medical safety petitions. More than 20 million signatures and attestations have been gathered in petitions across societies via W C T U channels.
