Death of well known citizen in Wyoming region
Fred S. Garland, a longtime Wyoming pioneer and oil field tracker in the Big Horn Basin, died April 29 after months of illness. Born January 16, 1867 in New York, he moved to Colorado then to Wyoming, worked in range stock and livery before focusing on oil and gas geology. He married Irene Idlewood Perkins in 1897 and leaves three sons George Millard Cash and daughter Mrs Roy Ludington, plus three brothers and a sister. Funeral services were held at the M E church with Rev. W J Law officiating.

Sufficient funds have been approved for Greybull High School to send the track team to the state meet in Douglas on Saturday May 5. Contenders include Kirk Williamson Brown Wilkinson Jain Foe Smith and others with Coach Reich optimistic about placing in multiple events. A Basin meet on May 10 will also draw many from the district for track and oratory vocal and piano contests.

Warnings Slide Narrowly Avoid Wreck on Local Freight
Engineer Holberg and Fireman Slagle halted the local freight No. 75 near Sheep canyon after a 100 ton rock slide blocked the curve. They stopped within fifty feet of the debris about 11 p.m. Sunday, then backed to Greybull as trains were delayed. Dynamite crews cleared the track by 8:15 a.m. Monday, delaying train 76 seven hours.

Thieves raid keg of Green River and storeroom items
Thieves broke into the Wiley Book Shop storeroom between 7 and 9 PM Sunday and stole candy and Green River syrup worth about 15 dollars. Miss Wiley’s unlocked door allowed access by likely local youths. Nearby burglaries include dynamite caps and broken into George Sheets’ shack. Milk bottles are frequently stolen from doorsteps at night.

R E Silvers of Basin state highway engineer announced the nine mile Bench Road contract should be let without delay after two protests over right of way. Mr Sawyer of Scotts Bluff Nebr won with a 43000 bid, work to start immediately with surfacing by November first using crushed gravel and raising the roadbed two feet for drainage.

Nanook and the phonograph fascinate explorer Flaherty crew
Nanook the Eskimo hunter in the Pathe feature Nanook of the North becomes curious about a talking machine. Flaherty brought the phonograph to northeast Hudson Bay, and Nanook even tries to bite the disc. The explorer says Nanook now believes whites can do anything except become independent citizens of the frozen North.

Car Hits Loose Horse Then Flips Off Road
Fred Quartman driving a new Gardner sport car east of the river struck a loose horse on the highway Saturday. In his confusion he drove off the road and overturned on the embankment. He escaped uninjured and the car sustained slight damage.
