Mayor E P Landers led Greybull lodge 1481 Elks to the Grand Lodge session in Atlantic City New Jersey from July 2. The 125 traveling on the Denver Elks train joined dinners tours and visits from St Louis to Philadelphia and New York. Delegates toured Washington Philadelphia Atlantic City and Niagara Falls observed parades and ball games and heard speeches on tariff legislation. The group returns by mid August with plans to visit Canada and the Thousand Islands enclosure.
The Greybull Choral Club held its inaugural concert on a Saturday evening at the band stand. A large crowd praised the performances though most pieces were classical, save Wyoming Lullaby. The event showcased local vocal talent and left citizens eager for fall concerts. Reverend W J Sawyer spoke at intermission praising music’s uplifting effect and the band’s morale.
John Engle Sr and John Engle Jr attended the Northern Wyoming Bankers Association meeting in Worland with R E Gleeson and E T Ferry. Governor R D Carey spoke, Engle Jr spoke on bank advertising, and delegates toured a new Neither dome oil well slated to reach 6500 feet, potentially one of Wyoming’s deepest and largest oil sources. A banquet followed at the Doman hotel.

A Sunday night blaze at the Grand Theatre destroyed a $9,000 pipe organ and damaged fixtures and ceiling to about $3,000 more. Observers say the fire originated unknown causes. the organ could not be saved but a nearby piano was moved to safety. Insurance covers total losses near $12,000. The Methodist congregation used the theatre for services. fire crews arrived quickly and contained the flames before major damage.

Union Pacific will build 20.47 miles of second track on the Oregon Short Line through Glenns Ferry Idaho. A timber-treating plant will rise at The Dalles Oregon at about 500000 dollars. Improvements to store departments at Pocatello Idaho Rawlins Wyoming Grand Island Omaha Nebraska advanced.
The Baptist ladies plan a bake sale at the Rogers Mercantile store tomorrow Saturday to raise funds for church activities. Proceeds will support local missions and community outreach.
Senator John B Kendrick defends Henry Ford’s Muscle Shoals plan while opposing a 100 year lease. He supports a fifty year limit under the Water Power Act and calls for interest on government construction costs and full repayment of the government’s investment. He praises Ford’s leadership but argues the lease term and conditions are key.
Striking former employees of the Burlington at Sheridan Grey Bull Gillett Casper and the Northwestern at Casper and Lander were restrained by a U S court in Wyoming from interfering with railroad operations and property. The petitions warned that further interference could cause loss of life and destruction of property. Defendants were given until August 3 to show cause why the order should not be permanent.
Greybull readers await the Sells Floto circus in Thermopolis on Sunday July 30. The show plans a three ring tent and two stages and will stop for animal watering and feeding per interstate laws. Notable acts include clown Poodle Hanesford and a female impersonator tight wire dancer. Fifty cars compose the train. the display is among the road’s second largest tours with Barnum and Bailey and Ringlings nearby in winter quarters. The train is expected to pass Greybull around 9 PM Sunday.
Basin woke to a morning fire at 2:00 that consumed the Antlers hotel La Court rooms and the Kaster meat market. Wind from the northwest and low water pressure hindered firefighters, with Greybull aid arriving at 3:05. Loss estimated between 30 000 and 50 000 with insurance to cover.
The Big Horn Utilities company added a Bruce McBeth four cylinder 350 hp engine to the Greybull light station last Saturday. With a 60 hp engine previously, service was poor. now six generator units yield 700 hp total. Lines reach more town sections, improving lighting in business and residential areas.
Thermopolis and Greybull played a tense Sunday game in Thermopolis with Greybull taking a 4 to 2 victory in the second game of a double header. The opener Thermopolis won 11 to 3 over Worland despite rain. Attendance was light for the best game of the season.
