Ku Klux Klan Delivers Letter To Wyoming Pastor

In Greybull Wyoming on December 31 1922 two men in white robes entered Rev W J Lloyd s Christian church during farewell services handed him a sealed Klan letter and a $25 purse then left by a waiting car. The missive from the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan expresses praise for Lloyd s Christian work and invites him to join their organization while asserting the Klan s commitment to law order and patriotism.

Baptist Church Banquet Ends With Victory In Basketball

The Baptist church banquet at the Pavil ion drew over two hundred guests for supper and an evening of entertainment. The church team defeated the Christian church 28 to 15 in a game featuring Wallace Myers H V Myers Walter Smith Virgil Brown Hugo Larson Rev Jackson Pat Pierce Cecil Jane Charles Whitman Qual Pierce Kenneth Wilkerson. A later program included playlets and a negro minstrel performed by church members.

Draper Assumes Justice of the Peace Duties After Harding

E A Draper takes over as justice of the peace this week following the retirement of George Harding. Bond issues for new county officers are delayed due to an application fault but the oath of office has been administered and the new officers are authorized to begin duties.

Gone but not forgotten Speed McGinnis obituary note

Roger Sherman Speed McGinnis and his wife Bud left Greybull after resigning from Greybull Pharmacy to relocate. A popular figure in Greybull sports, he organized the All Stars football team and was seen at many fights, often gifting straw hats to celebrate good plays. The Riders also closed their Greybull shop and will move on to Billings.

Schmid Smith Couple Wed in Montana Ceremony

Miss Ethel Schmid of Plentywood Montana and John J. Smith of Greybull were married by Father Enders at the Griffin Inn on Sunday evening. Mrs Griffin served as matron of honor and Mr Griffin was best man. They will reside in Greybull with many well wishers.

Domestic dispute lands Patterson in Draper court

Earl E E Patterson refinery worker is charged with assault and battery by his wife and mother in law Mrs Elizabeth Theme Freshout in Judge Drapers court. Patterson says he visited to recover belongings and pushed past the mother in law after she blocked entry. Judge Draper fines him ten dollars with payment suspended on good behavior. Mrs Theme Frehour, a divorcee of two husbands, is blamed for the breakup and is noted as a familiar police court figure in Greybull.

Watch Night Service At Trinity Methodist Church

A Grey Bull watch night service at Trinity Methodist drew about a hundred attendees with sixty staying for the New Year prayer. Rev Will J Law shared how hymns led to conversions and social gains including sober lives and restored families while attendees cited memories from twenty states.

Nevel Returns Home After Appendix Surgery

Leland Nevel, after an operation for a ruptured appendix at St. Luke's hospital three weeks ago, left for his home in Lovell on Wednesday.

Town Council Proceedings On January 1 1928

The Greybull town council met in regular session at town hall with Mayor Edmund P. Landers and councilors C. C. Garnett W. C. Roberts and G. R. Simpson present. The previous minutes were approved and bids on Greybull water bonds were rejected. Special Water Extension Fund totaling 10340.88 was to be split between First National Bank and First State Bank as time deposits secured by bonds. Treasurer's report was presented and bills allowed before adjournment.

Hallowell Concert Company Entertains at Grand Palace

The largest turnout yet attended a Grand Palace dance Tuesday evening featuring the Hallowell Concert Company of Chicago, under the Elks. The orchestra had long performed in Greybull, but this year’s concert drew remark for its marked improvement and broad citizen pleasure.

Salvation Army plans drive to raise 2000 for Grey Bull Corps

A Salvation Army advisory board meeting in the First State Bank outlined a campaign to fund Grey Bull Corps in Big Horn County. A campaign committee was formed to raise 2000 and a joint meeting will finalize plans for a drive starting January 10.

Mrs. Alice D Watson former wife of John Watson and W B Edwards prominent Emblem rancher wed in Denver on December 12. Watson had been granted a divorce October 24. They traveled to Denver to bypass Wyoming remarriage wait rules and returned to Casper to settle.

Boy Breaks Arm at Skating Rink in Denver

Frank Strothers, 15, son of Mrs. FP Strothers of Denver visiting his mother, fell at the skating rink Tuesday night. He returned to the Draper house, claimed he was not hurt, but Wednesday morning doctors found a broken arm and dislocated wrist and set it.
