The eighty annual Indiana Methodist Conference closed at 3 10 pm with district assignments read by superintendents. A Sabbath desecration resolution passed, a critique of a Supreme Court decision was included, and DePauw University received a total endowment gift of 17 000 dollars from the conference this year. Odd Fellows Visit Indiana Home Packed Voyage Exceeds Expectation
Sovereign Grand Lodge members from all states and Canada visited the Indianapolis Odd Fellows Home on a Saturday excursion. Four hundred attendees toured the 12 year old facility with 135 cultivated acres, two buildings including a hospital, capacity for 250, and a $300000 assets value. A luncheon, reception committee, and remarks by Am. K. Stephenson highlighted the event.

Bead Craft From Rose Petals Recalls Indian Girls
The Brookville American reprints an Indianapolis Star note describing how Indian girls in the west made beads from rose petals. Miss Georgia Howland Binkley recounts Brookville practices from over fifty years ago, where petals were darkened in an iron vessel, ground to pulp, rolled into balls, pierced with hot pins, dried, and strung into neckwear. Ms Lucinda Meeks retains a half century old string of these rose beads.

Mrs Mary Ewing Howard dies after long illness in Decatur county
Mrs Mary Ewing Howard died at 9 am Saturday at her daughter’s home on South Frankline street after a prolonged paralysis. Funeral was held 2 pm Monday at the residence. Born August 12, 1829 in Clay township, she was among Decatur county’s oldest natives and one of fifteen Ewing children. She married Jesse Howard February 17, 1853. eight children born, four surviving: Naonie Campbell, Mattie Daily, Eliza Littell, and son Aaron. Husband died August 17, 1869. son Liouvert died August 12, 1873. The family lived west of town before moving to Liberty about thirty years ago. She joined the Christian church and remained cheerful in illness.

First Piano of Union County Sold to Connersville Buyer
The first piano brought to Union County, originally owned by Mrs. John Kuhn, sold for $500 to a Connersville buyer. Made in Italy in 1798 with a bell and drum attachment, the instrument came from England and was long a family heirloom. It was previously owned by William Appleton, editor of The Herald, who secured it in Cincinnati in the 1850s. The piano was later exhibited for local social events before changing hands again.
