A party of J. P. Thomson, Dr. H. S. Hopkins, Barney Robison and Charles Gates will travel to Oklahoma next Tuesday to bid on lands in the Big Pasture opening on December 3. They plan camping, hunting, and fishing, hoping for success in securing land prizes.
In Adams Civil and School townships Decatur County Indiana ex rel William Robertson's case against Oliver P. Floyd, an ex trustee, was settled. Floyd and his sureties showed the township full payment of five thousand dollars, though criminal liability remains. The court ruled specific sums owed totaling 5000, all paid by Floyd's mother Mrs Floyd. Floyd now reads title clear regarding township funds, yet criminal liability persists.
Louisa Lorena Ruble and James David Harvey wed at Sunbeam Cottage Ruskin on October 28 1906 in a ceremony led by Rev A B Wall. The couple left for a short wedding trip aboard train No 85 and will reside at Sunbeam Cottage. The bride wore white silk and a bouquet of white roses, the groom in black. The event drew a large circle of family and friends despite Mrs Miller’s illness.
On Monday at 10 30 a m a meeting will be held in the Presbyterian church to discuss the advisability of organizing a local charity organization. All who are interested are requested to be present.
Harry Richey, son of John Richey of Milroy, lost his arm when his hand was caught in a corn feeder on the Perry T. Innis farm near Milroy Saturday morning. Doctors Dougland and Lampton arrived and amputated the arm first below the elbow and then above it to stop life threatening bleeding.
Russell Elliott, nineteen, was seized while seeking factory work in Chillicothe Ohio. She confessed marriage to George Elliott who she said deserted her. Disguised in boys clothes, she traveled from Greensburg Indiana via Dayton to verify rumored separation while women at Logan Auto Works suspected her true identity.
About eleven o clock Friday morning Oscar Towler near St Omer had his right hand torn off at the wrist while feeding a corn shredder on the Manford Slifer farm. His wrist bones were badly mangled. he is the son of the late Caleb Towler who was killed by a Big Four train at Adams about a year ago.
A Saturday blaze destroyed Sam Hollensbe and Elmer Stewart barns near Westport. Hollensbe lost hay, a buggy, and a harness set. The fire started from trash burning in an alley by children. Nearby homes of Hollenslee, Bart McGinnis, and Joe Retherford caught fire but were quickly contained with minor damage.
Arrangements made for weekly religious services at the I O O F Home every Sunday at 2 30 PM. Ministers from Decatur County will preach on listed dates including A L Bennett D R VanBuskirk A R Beach James Mailley A Murphy L D Crooks John Heritage H Morrow R H Dunaway C B Sylvester W F Secular F J Anthony, with others to follow.
All persons knowing themselves to be indebted to Frank H. Robison are asked to call at Porter and Porter’s store and settle.
The Decatur County Farmers Association announces two institutes in December. Sardinia sessions December 12 and 13 feature Bertha Miller on Domestic Science and B F Marsh on farm efficiency and buildings. Kingston sessions December 19 and 20 feature Mrs M C Lindley and G C Martindale with local speakers to follow. programs will be published in The Standard next week.
Robert Cole a Civil War veteran died at his North Broadway home Sunday morning around eleven o clock from general debility and heart trouble He was seventy years old and had buried his wife a few weeks earlier He left a son and three daughters He belonged to Pap Thomas Post G A R Funeral services were held at his home Tuesday at two o clock led by Rev A L Bennett Centenary M E church and burial was in South Park cemetery under G A R aus pices
About twenty five relatives and friends gathered Friday evening at Mr and Mrs Marvin Martins home on South Michigan avenue to honor Forrest Lowe of Alba Missouri guest of Miss Lillian English south of town Recitations games violin by Lowe with piano by English and refreshments made the party a memorable evening
The Ladies Aid Society of Centenary M. E. church will host a dinner in the church parlors this evening. The menu features chicken baked beans salads cranberry sauce pickles jellies fruits and other items for a hearty rich feast served in fine style.
A Mapleton school four miles southwest of Letts closed Friday due to a scarlet fever outbreak. Mrs. L Scripture and two children, along with Henry Sharp’s daughter, are among those ill in the Mapleton neighborhood.
