Third Annual County Commencement Draws Wide Attendance
The eighth year graduates, 122 students, filled the stage as a packed crowd from across the county attended the ceremony. Rev. James A Gardner gave the invocation and Prof. John I Hoffman presented diplomas as Rev. W. H. Reynolds gave the benediction. Class address by Rev. Charles W. Whitman urged education, global outlook, and character building with references to Edison, Westinghouse, and the Panama Canal.

Destructive Rail Crash Near Town Kills One Injures Five
A freight switching error allowed coal cars to roll onto the main line near Muddy Fork bridge. Engineer Pearl Nicely of Indianapolis died, fireman Ola Olsen of Anderson and brakeman Robert Brumneyer were wounded. Conductor John Bryant and brakeman Ivan Jones also injured. Wreckage included hogs, merchandise, and stone. burning pork lingered for hours. Recovery crew from Indianapolis reran the engine and track was cleared for afternoon trains.

The joint will of Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Hamilton was filed Friday and not to take effect until Mrs. Hamilton dies. Estate valued at about 375000. Edward Hamilton adopted son receives homestead of 160 acres and 40 more. Nephew Rev Barry Nyce gets 60 acres. Mary and Orlando Hamilton Jr receive 40 acres each. Trustees Edwards and Everett Hamilton manage residue and debts, may sell 120 acres. Numerous specific bequests follow including church funds and individuals. a $10000 Y M C A bequest in Greensburg depends on conditions. If unmet, fund goes to home missions of the Presbyterian church.

Harmon W. Myers died Thursday night at his North Carver street home after a long illness. A German born veteran, he served in the Fifth Ohio cavalry starting 1862 and later lived near New Penoington before moving to town. Survived by wife Caroline Hancock and two daughters, his funeral was held at Centenary M E church as he had requested.

Masonic Grand Lodge Rejects Holt Bequest for Indiana Home
At a recent Masonic Grand Lodge session the Holt bequest of about 300000 for a state Masonic home was declined due to restrictive strings. The will left the estate to Jeffersonville lodge for widows and orphans, with Clark county location and joint control by the lodge and Grand Lodge. Indigent Masons were not provided. The fund totals 145000 for the Grand Lodge and 25000 for the Grand Chapter Eastern Star. Four locations were considered Franklin Crawfordville Rushville and Ziwasville. Greensburg was discussed but objected to sharing with another order’s home.
