Hamilton Bros Canning Factory boosts payment to eight dollars per ton for tomatoes delivered. Patrons and growers are urged to contract by March 31 to secure the liberal reward and support the firm’s tomato program.
The Debating Club of Westport challenges the Sardinia Club to a forensic contest on March 2 at the Sardinia opera hall. Westport will be represented by Carl Shafer editor of the Courier, Prof. Thomas Clerkin, and Thomas Hargit of Westport Public Schools. Sardinia accepted and the question was sent back for the challengers.
Nellie the pacing mare owned by Prof. John W. Rhodes of the city was sold to Will Dickerson of Goshen New York for 1500 dollars. The horse was shipped to John Dickerson of Pleasant View Park Macon Georgia for training with aim of reaching the two minute mark before eventual shipment to Goshen New York for breeding to Joe Patchen.
Rushville Republican reports manager Leroy Tudor plans a second vaudeville house in Greensburg and possibly another act or two added to bills here. With two theatres the bill could change twice weekly, offering patrons new shows and higher quality entertainment.
C W Rager of Cincinnati notified this city Friday that Albert Christy has been appointed as one of the mail weighers on the Chicago Division of the Big Four Railroad. Christy, a former Model grocery clerk and local post office sub carrier, will weigh mail to help determine government pay. He reports to Cincinnati for duty and will operate between Cincinnati and Chicago for 105 days at three dollars per day.
Mrs. Walter Brand faced a hostile tramp at her toll-gate property. After he threatened to cut her throat, she loaded her husband's rifle, challenged him to enter, and he retreated to continue his business elsewhere. She remained calm and continued her chores.

A burglar entered the North Franklin street rooms of Marion Allen about one o'clock Friday morning and stole thirty five dollars in cash and a gold watch valued at forty dollars. Allen fired at the intruder, who fled through the door and down the stairs, with two more shots fired in pursuit, but without apparent effect.
James Kelly and Frank Rankin plan to organize a company to manufacture their patent pneumatic pad used under collars breast straps and saddle backs of harness. Kelly sold the entire rural carrier stock at Anderson and Kokomo. The device, priced at one dollar, is praised as a God send for horses solving sore shoulders and backs.
An eleven person melodrama at the Harris City school house Friday night drew a crowded house. Stella Porter led a cast including pupils with Horace aiding and plans to tour Westport after strong local success. Cod liver oil remedies advertised by Batterton's Drug Store with Vinci tonic claimed to aid debility and lung trouble.
A monster Golden Eagle with a six foot four inch wingspan was shot near Hartsville. Paul Graham delivered the bird to Undertaker W. L. White for mounting. The Standard notes the eagle, called the proud bird of freedom, and condemns the killing as a grave offense.
The government will release one cent postage stamps as a book, ready for sale early next month. Each book holds twenty four stamps in four sheets of six, bound like two cent stamp books, and priced at twenty five cents per book. The text notes prior growth in stamp book sales and popularity with travelers seeking convenience.
The Open Fountain gospel number by H. W. Kerr of the Kerr Brothers Evangels was sung at Shelbyville with Prof. R. B. Rudy of Indianapolis setting the verses to music. Rudy’s choral society led a 1500-strong audience in a gripping performance that drew requests for a carnival repeat.
On a Sunday at two o'clock, Garfield Sherman and Edith Turner were married at Rev. Likely’s home in Indianapolis in the presence of relatives. After a wedding feast at the bride’s parents home the couple will reside in the city. Sherman, a plumbing business partner with James Dashiell, is praised as industrious. Turner’s daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Turner is noted as an accomplished musician.
John Suttles Jr confessed taking Chester Leimgruber's watch from a vest at Garland Mills. Marshal Dickey arrested him Sunday, he was jailed until Monday morning then released on recognizance to appear in circuit court March 18. It is his first offense.
