The Terre Haute Daily Gazette notes a town named Bessemer laid out on the Cincinnati and Terre Haute line. When the railroad reaches Terre Haute next summer an outlet for Bessemer steel may appear with Eastern capitalists building blast furnaces and mills. Rich coal beds and plentiful water near Keliever support steel production and ore shipping. A future city near the line could rise rapidly, like a mushroom from a hot bed.
Three protracted meetings in Sardinia and vicinity were held by the Baptist, Presbyterian and Methodist churches. The Baptist meeting led by Rev. Carter added 120113 members by accession, the Presbyterian meeting led by Rev. Walker received eight by profession and baptism. Mr. Holmes closed his whiskey shop at Alert and moved west, leaving many thirsty friends.
Kin mapells Cincinnati Lafayette Railroad Company informs Washington township Secatur county Indiana citizens that at the next March term of the county commissioners court an application will be made for a license to sell intoxicating liquors in less quantities than a quart at a specified premises starting near the half mile post in section 1 township 16 range 9 east.
