A letter from Col. A. E. Boone requests 7500 for the preliminary survey to bring the Black Diamond railroad to Madison. The route requires 2 percent of township taxables and a grade not over sixty feet per mile. If not paid, the line may divert through Wirt, six miles north of Madison.

Mortality mainly from consumption with several deaths in Greensburg. Population of Greensburg about 5000 and remainder of county about 15000.
