Full costume rehearsal for a children’s pageant at the Methodist church tonight at 7:30 supports a Thursday and Friday public show. The pageant depicts scenes from home to city life with roles for 200 children and multiple church groups.
The Wise County meeting formed a hall committee to plan the county hall project. John Common Urso McCorkle A M Alexander Tom Tumill were named to secure plans specifications and cost estimates for starting the work.
Seventy nine years ago Rev J B Lathrop served Mt Pleasant M E Sunday school as its superintendent in Greensburg Indiana. He opened the school took attendance visited classes and kept records. He notes the involvement of leading Decatur families Robbins Courtney Garrison Kirkpatrick Armstrong Stewart Anderson Conner White Grøndydke. The story marks a rally day for the Sunday schools.
Capt Stanley Nelson Dancey will close the Ameri can Legion Lyceum Course at 8 oclock Saturday night in the Presbyterian church. The talk reviews his wartime service, leadership, and postwar speaking career in Canada and beyond.
A Hazelrigg farm gas well near town, owned by Mrs. Margaret Blair and operated by Fred Knarr, was drilled to 922 feet then 40 more feet in Trenton, on the Zoller line. Contractors Bird and Rimstidt report it among the strongest wells developed in Decatur county, rivaling a nearby well shot two months earlier.
Secretary Herbert Hoover told the American Farm Bureau Federation executive committee in Washington that rail rates risk remapping the nation's agricultural geography. He cited 30 cent per bushel grain shipping from Missouri to New York versus 10 cents by water from Argentina and warned against reliance on overseas food. He endorsed the bureau's cooperative marketing plan and praised its conservative approach.
Maurice S. Lafuze a Liberty area farmer and Marjorie Beall a Clarksburg teacher were issued a marriage license this morning in the county clerk's office.
A powerful wind and electrical storm swept Bartholemew County last night around four o clock, damaging roofs, trees and a tent used for Sunday schools. In Seymour and Greencastle areas a miniature tornado unroofed buildings, toppled chimneys and tore down power lines, with further losses reported at farms and parks. Local utilities briefly disrupted as debris scattered through business districts.
A large Sunday school parade is planned for Greensburg this evening with hundreds expected. All Sun day schools will be represented and residents urged to participate as tags were distributed at the court house yard booth. The route runs south on Broadway to Washington then east to Franklin and Main, west to Monfort, north to Washington, east to Broadway, and circles the square before dispersing. Assembly at 5:00 with business houses to close at 5:30.

The Milroy high school will hold commencement Thursday evening for a class of fourteen graduates who will receive diplomas. The program includes music, invocation by Rev. H. R. Knights Templar No. 59 of Greensburg voted to furnish a room at the new County Memorial hospital. They discussed attending the Indianapolis Conclave May 11-12 and considered a group traction car at $2.35 round trip, with three days for return travel. One new member was elected.
Churches host a prayer meeting for all except the Methodist. A pageant costume rehearsal is set at the Methodist church. Elks Lodge and Haymakers Lodge host events. Movies show at the K of P theatre and the South Side theatre.
Sixty seven members in New York City repudiated the National Disabled Soldiers League prompting wholesale resignations. Four hundred of 650 New York members are said to desert within a week amid charges of mismanagement and missing funds. Calls grow to revoke Disabled Soldiers Week and an investigation of the league’s affairs follows. George H. Gillen, league president, is accused of opposing a national compensation bill.
Alex Redman, 72, longtime Middletown resident, was found dead at 9:30 am Tuesday in a corn field near John Benson’s home three miles east of Waldron. Officials cite heart trouble as the cause. he had left home at 7 am and may have died shortly before discovery.
Judge Will Sparks urged preparation for life, knowledge, character, and service to others in a Sandusky commencement held despite bad weather. He warned against settling for low efficiency and urged investment in children, with a Christian tempered call to honesty and high standards. Superintendent Crawley praised the speaker and stressed preserving public school funding, while tributes were paid to the basketball team and silent prayers for a ill classmate Arthur Wilson.
Perry N. Brown, Napoleon, longtime Daily News reporter, recalls his 26 years as a teacher in sparse red schoolhouses during the 1870s and 1880s when daily pay ranged from 1.35 to 1.75 dollars, lamenting that educators were underpaid for their service.
