The piece recalls a push for street lighting in Greensburg starting January 1 with editor changes at D Batterton and G W Rhiver. Andrew J. Smith died at his North Broadway home at 5 30 p m Friday after a long glandular neck ailment. Funeral services were held at 2 30 p m Sunday with Rev W S Biddle and others officiating. He served in Co D Seventh Indiana and the Ninth Indiana Artillery, was a declared Democrat turned Republican, and was married to Kate Winchester with three children Grace Olive and Clyde. Clyde survives. Grace and Olive died in childhood and Kate Winchester Smith died last December. The local G A R post attended.

The Decatur county Democratic delegates at Eagles hall designated candidates for November. Att. Gee Lee Tremain chaired, backed by W. J. Kincaid and Mendenhall, while Turner faced opposition from Adams township. Anthony Habig drew weak support as party lines fought over auditor and other offices.
O L Bishop a druggist pleaded guilty before Judge Will Sparks to one affidavit charging illegal liquor sales and received a $25 fine plus costs. The prosecuting attorney noted the remaining three affidavits. Bishop is among druggists and clerks charged in a sweep led by the Good Citizens League with 24 affidavits filed by J Oscar Hall and sworn by Robert Allee of Indianapolis who reportedly conducted many purchases.
A Shelby circuit jury returned a verdict for Dr. George Crawford in Lydia Miers vs. Crawford after a week of trial. The case stemmed from an ankle injury and alleged malpractice seeking 85000. The Milford residents previously pursued the suit in Decatur with a change of venue.
James Vanderbur aged sixty six died at his Bryan Street home Friday night after a long illness of dropsy. He leaves a widow and six children four from a former marriage Charles and Harry in Iowa Oscar in North Dakota Maude in Hartford City and two daughters Carrie May and Mary Jane at home. He is survived by brothers Thomas and Milt Vanderbur. He formerly lived near Harris City and later Greensburg. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon by Rev. T K Willis and the body buried at Burk's Chapel.
A J Halford longtime Indiana newspaper figure and compiler of the Congressional Directory died in Washington on April 17 after a lingering illness. Born August 13 1851 in Hamilton Ohio he rose from reporting Indiana legislative proceedings to AP UP and NY Sun chief House and Supreme Court correspondent. He later edited the Congressional Directory before illness ended his active work.
