Sunday night a blaze tore through the E. E. Doles spoke and rim factory on South Michigan Avenue. The frame mill burned completely with its machinery, large saws and lathes ruined. Fire believed started by hoboes in the shed. Warehouse saved. Loss estimated 8000 to 10000 with only 2000 insured. Owner considers rebuilding.

Protest Over Broadway Street Contract Sparks Heated Hearing
Thomson Reed and Davis protested the Broadway street improvement award to Pulse and Porter claiming their lower bid on plans C and D was over 3600 less. The hearing occurred Monday and the contract could not be rescinded after signing, forcing the county to pay an extra 3600 for haste.

Death of Thomas McMahan a Greensburg citizen
Thomas McMahan of Greensburg died at home on East Central avenue Saturday night at 11 30 after a month long illness. Born in County Clare Ireland on September 6 1819 he came to America as a youth landing in Boston then moved to Lawrenceburg and later to this county in 1858. He helped build local business blocks and worked on the railroad after the Civil War enlisting in Wilder s and Rigby s battery serving three years. A member of Pap Thomas Post No 5 G A R, his funeral was held at St Mary s Catholic church after services at the home. He is survived by a daughter Mrs Sallie Edwards his wife having died years ago.

Death of Newt Paramore County Recorder
Newt Paramore, longtime county recorder and former clerk in his father’s store, died after three weeks in his East Main Street room. Born 1845 to Calvin and Mary E. Robbins Paramore, he outlived by only a nephew, George Conner. Funeral held Saturday at 10 a.m. officiated by Rev. J. B. Lathrop. courthouse bell tolled in his honor. Paramore was elected county recorder in 1910 by 239 majority after a short service of one year and three months.

Oldest Shoe Merchant Ebenezer Edkins Dies Noted Lifespan
Ebenezer Edkins, aged eighty five, born Mar ton on-the-Marsh England, came to Greensburg in 1825 with his father Thomas Edkins. They started a shoe business now run by his son and grandsons. He married in 1854 and lived in a home south of town. He likely walked many miles between home and store over fifty nine years.

Greensburg Youth Doctor Leads Record Skip Graft Operation
Dr. Fred Morris, a former Greensburg boy, performed a remarkable skip graft on a severely burned girl in a Pittsburg hospital. Twenty seven volunteers donated skin cuticle in what is said to be the largest such operation on record and it was successful. Morris, nephew to Fred and Henry Kimmerling, graduated Greensburg High School in 1899.

John A. Johnson of Harper station visited THE STANDARD with old photographs. He, a veteran of the 38th Indiana regiment, displayed images of regimental officers, only two still alive, Capt. Largest Hog Brought to Richmond Weighs 1000 Pounds
A nine foot long brig weighing 1000 pounds was butchered at the Holzapfel cold storage plant. City Meat Inspector Charles Pitman calls it the largest hog in the city. It came from the Glen Miller stockyards and sold for 95 dollars per hundred pounds totaling 95.
