A Franklin County summary lists widespread flood damage after White water confinement. In Rockville twenty eight homes destroyed with contents. damages include foundations, outbuildings, fences, and personal property totaling hundreds of thousands. Roads bridges and other infrastructure also suffered, with total county losses around six hundred thousand dollars.
Major J. O. Cravens of Lawrenco urg has been in the area taking refuge on the high water. When asked where he would go his reply was I am going to a town where they are neither high water wind nor hissky. Local friends report he plans to move to a drier place.
Kokomo voted dry last week by 100 in a shift from 28 two years ago. Ladoga’s dry majority grew from 67 to 163. Delphi went dry by 162 compared with 57 two years ago. New Castle shifted to a wet majority from 581 to 156.
The Associated Charities reports a busy March with fifty four relief applications due to illness and rainy idleness. Seventeen groceries eight fuel and twenty one clothing requests funded from emergency and special funds amounting to 8954 and 20.51 respectively. The secretary made seventy home calls to counsel encourage and assist. Thirty one garments five shoes two bed coverings provided. Seven cases went to the trustee two to Commissioner Doles. Miss Auretta Hoyt of Indianapolis gave a temperance address at Hoosier hall while children from the Christian Sunday school presented a Christmas program. Music by Hitt Thomas Logan Flora Birdsell and Ida Maguire followed. The text notes various local arrivals and a family reunion with gifts, plus school teacher meetings and community visits.

Squire Hayden Miller recounted the remarkable rescue near Cleves where Edward Woods saved his infant daughter by securing her in a half bushel chip basket before the flood swept it away. Two hours later the father heard a cry, found the baby and basket lodged in a willow, and then reunited with his wife and other child in Cleves.
Mrs Gideon Bentley née Huldah Jane Johnson died at her Adams home Thursday evening after a brief illness. Born January 1, 1839, she married Gideon Bentley in 1865 and cared for his three stepsons. Three of their five children survive: Mrs Jesse Jackson, Mrs Will VanAusdall, and William G Bentley. Funeral services were at the Adams Baptist Church Sunday at 10:30, with Rev O R Langum officiating, burial in Adams cemetery.

The latest state law requires annual Arbor Day classroom observances on the third Friday of April with about 500000 students learning tree and plant selection, planting, and care. Parents are invited to participate as teachers demonstrate grafting and budding and plant specimens on school grounds where space allows.
Two North Vernon Republican newspapers merge as Dc C. Klinger buys the Plain Dealer from J M McGuire and moves the Republican office to the Plain Dealer. The Plain Dealer has existed fifty years and the Republican twenty one years as the town reduces excess newspaper offices.
An editor pushing phonetic spelling faces backlash from subscribers. A country postal letter complains readers have endured two months of misspelled text and urges stopping the paper if spelling does not improve.
S M Shera of Boone county writes from Manila opposing the Jones bill for independence in eight years. He notes substantial Filipino citizens favor self government yet fear its consequences. He cites progress over fourteen years with many American teachers and English speaking Filipinos, arguing longer education will prepare a true Filipino republic.
The Christian church in Greensburg hosted an illustrated lecture by Evan gelist Herbert Yeuell on drug addiction and white slavery. The hour and a half talk attracted an almost full house and a refined audience, with calcium light and a dissolving machine creating striking pictures. Yeuell plans a second talk tomorrow night on Peter and Judas Iscariot.

Mrs Mary Hanks Craig died at her Hartsville home Saturday night at eighty four. She leaves five sons William W Jeptha of Columbus Miss Lewis of Indianapolis Ardhery of Chicago and Ed at home and a daughter Mrs Anderson Griffey plus brother Newton Hanks of Covington Ky. She was born in Carrollton Ky in 1829 and married William Craig on April 25 1854. He died thirty years ago. Funeral at the Hartsville home at 10 30 Tuesday morning.
The Married Ladies Musicale hosted a Friday benefit at the K Y P theatre raising 75 for relief. The total fund nears 800 with 210 spent by Saturday and a 150 draft sent Monday to H L Head chairman of the Brookville relief committee. Greensburg shows strong generosity for the cause.
Reverend W. J. Cocke departed Saturday for Maryville Tennessee to conduct a meeting for the American Christian Missionary Society. Maryville lies sixteen miles from Knoxville.
