Commissioners Let 3 Road Contracts and Bridge
At the monthly meeting the county commissioners awarded three road contracts and a bridge job. Thomson and Davis won the Isan house road in Clay township for 11 100, Moore and Crise took the Ralston road in Sand Creek township for 9 000, and Charles Redington received the Shirk road contract in Washington and Clinton townships for 8 215. Completion dates are September 1, 1918 for the first two roads and November 3 this year for the third. A Burk Construction Company bid 6768 for a Purvis bridge northeast of Letts. Seven liquor licenses were renewed for one year. Viewers were named for the McCoy gravel road case.

At a regular session on Monday night councilman Frank Magee resigned his seat to move to a farm west of town. The resignation creates a council vacancy and a Democratic ticket vacancy, with plans to fill per local procedures. A special session is expected next Monday to fill the vacancy. Clean-Up Week was slated for April 30 to May 5, and May first week will be set aside annually for the event. The city clerk was authorized to purchase a new check writer and protector, the new machine to be among the best on the market.
