Darrell Needham announces the Annual Butler County Farm Bureau Rural-Urban Banquet will be held on Wednesday September 24 1969 at 7 00 p m at the Farm Bureau Auditorium in Allison. State Senator Charlene Conklin from Black Hawk County will be guest speaker. Tickets are 2 00 per person and may be obtained from any director member of the Women s Committee insurance personnel or from the Allison office. An interesting evening and a good meal will be enjoyed by those attending.
Bill Van Horn will observe his 55th birthday on September 22 at Mathers Nursing Home. The event is noted as a family gathering with care home staff assisting.
Eldon F. Peterson, manager of Farmers Incorporated Co operative Society in Greene, attended the one day Managers Roundtable in Charles City hosted by the Farmers Grain Dealers Association of Iowa. Topics included commodity credit problems truth in lending and proposed cooperative tax changes, with discussion of FGDA marketing agreements and futures hedging to aid member coops.

Mrs. Mary Markle 91 died September 11 at Chautauqua Guest Home Charles City. Born May 19 1888 to Nicholas and Helen Freyereisen Heinz she was widow of Lon Markle who died January 1 1969. Survived by two sisters Susie Grapp Rockwell and Mike Brunner Greene. Services were held September 15 at St Marys Catholic Church Roseville with burial at the Roseville parish cemetery.
A teen dance is scheduled for Saturday September 20 at the old McRoberts Implement building across from the depot. Dancing runs from 8 30 to 11 30 p m with music by Creed a rock and underground group. The event will be chaperoned.
Behrends Jr. of Bremer County, municipal Civil Defense Director, is appointed state representative to the U S Civil Defense Council for twelve months. He will liaise with Iowa members, promote membership, and advance council programs. He is also appointed regional member of the Fire and Rescue Committee.
The Secretary of Agriculture designates Bremer Black Hawk and Butler Counties for emergency loans through the Farmers Home Administration due to flood weather and hail damage. Loans at 3 percent assist farmers unable to obtain credit to resume operations. refinancing existing debts is not allowed. Eligible farmers should contact County Supervisor Richard L. Bolte at 911 East Bremer Avenue in Waverly.
Greene residents may still enroll in NIACC adult education courses for the fall semester. Donald Ryerkerk, adult education director, said programs include vocational college credit adult secondary home making basic adult business and general interest courses with classes starting the week of September 22.
The Round Grove Golf and Country Club schedules a Pig Bar-B-Que for September 25. Adult members and guests invited with serving around 7:00 p.m. A social hour precedes dinner. Tickets available in advance from board members, limited to the first 140 sales.
Floyd County Deputy reports two Sunday wrecks near here on September 14. Richard Schoenfeldt drove Merlin Whitesiide’s car on Golf Course Road when he lost control at County Line road, rolled twice, total loss but minor injuries for occupants including Stanley Pyatt Mark Dix and Jim O’Donald. Debra Frascht rolled her father’s pickup north of Golf Course Road, suffering a cut leg. Vehicle damage estimated at 1200 dollars for top windshield and front end.
Fifty county residents were drawn for possible District Court Jury Duty for the fourth quarter of 1968 covering October November and December announced by Clerk of Court Walter W Wilhelm. Trial jurors will report on call with list by townships including Albion Beaver Bennedette Butler Coldwater Fremont Jackson Jefferson Madison Monroe Pittsford Shell Rock Washington and West Point.

Fireman Phillip J. Schafer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan D. Schafer of Greene, serves aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Albany homeported in Mayport Florida. Albany recently joined Atlantic Fleet Weapons Range tests near Puerto Rico for weapons systems training and crew readiness, with port visits across the Caribbean.
Mr and Mrs Philip Carroll of Sioux City announce the birth of a son named Richard Philip born September 3 weighing 8 pounds 4 1/2 ounces. Mrs Carroll is the former Donna Barth. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Albert Barth.
Tim Feldman, son of Mr and Mrs Don Feldman, underwent a tonsillectomy Monday morning September 15 at St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Waverly. He returned home on Tuesday.
Greene area residents may try out for The Lark a North Town Area Community College production. Director Arlan Rahlf says casting not limited to NIACC students and no prior acting experience required. Sergeant First Class Jerry B Caldwell received the Bronze Star by direction of the President for meritorious service in Vietnam from September 1968 to August 1969 while leading the administrative services branch of the 4th Transportation Command. He returned from Saigon and is stationed in Minneapolis with wife Ellen and children Kelly Cass and Melodie living in Stacey Minnesota.
A joint meeting of Butler County American Legion and Auxiliary will be held in Bristow at 8:00 p m. on September 24 in the Legion Hall.
Public rehearsals for Wartburg College's oratorio chorus begin September 23 in the Fine Arts Center choir room. Two works will be prepared for a December 17 performance in Neumann Auditorium: Bach Christmas Oratorio and Honegger Christmas Cantata. The chorus will join the Wartburg Community Symphony Orchestra for the annual Christmas at Wartburg program. First rehearsal at 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., with weekly sessions thereafter.

High individual scores include Duane Miller with 587 on 205 and 235 games, plus 550 by Bill Wihim and 531 by Galen Miller.
Greene Ramblers defeated Osage 33 to 6 last Friday with strong defense and multiple scoring plays by Debner Stuntz Rutz Marzen Shultz Majewski Johnson Needham and Schuknecht. Osage got on the board first but Greene answered in the third and fourth quarters with interceptions and touchdowns before hosting Eldora this Friday at 7:45 p.m.
Pvt Jerry Meek son of Mr and Mrs Wayne Meek is home on leave and will report to Fort Sill Oklahoma on September 27. He resides with his wife Linda and son Robbie and they are staying with Mr and Mrs Dale Wilken.
Mrs. Marvin Miller of Greene presents an antiqued decoupage demonstration at the 1969 National Dairy Cattle Congress in Waterloo along with major youth events like the Iowa 4-H Dairy Heifer Show and Iowa FFA Dairy Judging Contest. The exposition runs September 20 to 28 with free Hippodrome entertainment and a 3,000-strong open livestock show.
